When shooting this set of Zenless Zone Zero Ellen cosplay photos, what I wanted to capture most was her unique demeanor where laziness and danger coexist. To recreate this feeling, I invested a lot of effort into the costume and props right from the initial styling phase. The structure of this modified black-and-white maid dress is quite intricate, featuring extensive leather straps and metallic rivet buckles on the waist and arms, paired with multi-tiered ruffles along the skirt hem to create rich visual layers. The most challenging part was undoubtedly the massive, dark shark tail: not only is it enormous in volume, but it also needed to drape in natural curves with my movements, requiring constant attention during the shoot to avoid awkward clipping or getting snagged on the surroundings. The giant hand-held weapon was also a highly faithful custom prop; its red, white, and black palette feels very hardcore, and with a forward-heavy center of gravity, maintaining balance while executing slashing or charging stances required careful control.

For makeup, I deliberately chose red contact lenses to match the character's eye demeanor, slightly lifting the outer eyeliner and pairing it with that tiny tear mole under the eye to create a gaze that feels aloof, cool, and subtly disdainful. To complement the cold, gritty mood of the location, I selected a darker, muted lip shade, which created a striking contrast against the monochrome outfit under studio lighting.

The outdoor location for this shoot was an industrial ruin and bar counter infused with distinct cyberpunk flair. The photographer utilized high-contrast blue-cyan tones as the key light, complemented by touches of red ambient lighting to accentuate prop details in this Cyberpunk photography session. The cool-and-warm lighting scheme gave the entire frame both a sci-fi edge and a vintage street atmosphere. During the shoot, I explored various states: sitting at the bar counter with a lollipop in hand and casually crossing my legs to portray her everyday nonchalant laziness, and then switching to a cool, focused combat stance when wielding the greatsword. Wearing Black stockings with buckled high heels served to elongate body proportions nicely on camera, accentuating slender leg lines whether kicking up a leg or sitting sideways.

This on-camera look required conveying not only the sweetness of a maid, but also the rugged strength of a mechanical warrior. Although shooting all day in heavy attire and props was physically demanding—often requiring repeated posture adjustments to nail the right gaze or holding the heavy greatsword on my shoulder for long periods—seeing the preview shots in the camera made every bit of effort and preparation feel completely worthwhile. Bringing such a uniquely designed character from the game into reality and capturing her multi-faceted sides through the lens was a truly rewarding experience. In post-processing, we preserved authentic skin texture and realistic light and shadow without over-smoothing, striving for a grounded, realistic visual style so that the final cosplay photos look exquisite without feeling artificial.
