This Lucy cosplay outfit has been in preparation for a while. With the recent trending topics surrounding the Wuthering Waves Cyberpunk collaboration, I put this photo set onto the shooting schedule. To fit the post-apocalyptic tech vibe of cyberpunk, the photographer selected a highly spacious indoor atrium. The massive steel structures and transparent glass curtain walls provided an excellent industrial background. The core concept behind this set was to use a wide-angle lens for low-angle shots combined with a mid-air floating posture to express that sense of vitality—both oppressed yet longing to break free—in a cyberpunk world.
The silver-gray hair color with a pink gradient at the hair ends is the character's signature feature. When styling the wig, I didn't chase after an overly heavy makeup look, but instead preserved the skin's natural affinity to highlight the character's aloof yet warm visual feel. The makeup didn't deliberately include many cyberpunk mechanical modifications, because the core charm of Lucy lies in her idiosyncratic way of doing things, and the determination and resolve in her eyes for specific things. The overall makeup was clean and sharp, with the focus placed on the expression of the gaze.
Outfit coordination is a crucial part of this photo set. The white off-the-shoulder blouse paired with a black leather waist corset and straps outlined the upper body silhouette, while also laying a neutral and sleek foundation for the entire look. The black straps at the waist and abdomen connected to the tactical holster on the side of the thigh, naturally blending functionality and decoration. This design preserved the flexibility of the lower body to a great extent, leaving plenty of room for subsequent action designs. The lower body features white boy-shorts paired with a pair of highly eye-catching black tall chunky-heeled boots. The distinct red line accents on the boots visually shift the center of gravity downward, adding a sense of weight and stability to the frame.
During the actual shooting process, these mid-air floating movements demanded an extremely high level of coordination. It required not only excellent core muscle control to maintain balance but also precise anticipation of the focus by the photographer. The body's dynamic movement chose a posture of one leg naturally curled and legs staggered front to back. Under gravity, the heavy feel of the boots formed a beautifully layered contrast with the airy, floating feel of the top's lightweight fabric. The photographer experimented with various camera heights, ultimately deciding to present it with a slightly low-angle wide-angle lens, which, combined with the large-area reflection on the ground, completely released the spatial tension of the entire shot.
In terms of character emotion expression, I hoped this wouldn't just be a simple posed photo, so I projected that slightly alert yet nostalgic sense of aloofness into my eyes and slightly parted fingers. Working with several artificial post-processed glowing arcs in the background, the frame generated a spatial trance like data streams passing through. These glowing lines were not placed randomly; they extended along the dynamic movement of the floating figure and the direction of the gaze, brilliantly enhancing the narrative and sci-fi feel of the frame through Cyberpunk photography.
The actual light sources on the shooting site were mainly indoor cool-toned top lights, hitting the silver-white strands of hair to produce a very soft highlight transition, making the overall tonal value cool yet full of texture. The ground reflections and water-like glares further expanded the depth of field. When selecting and laying out the photos for this set, this image—with clean leg lines, an extended movement amplitude, and full-body details unsevered—highly fitted the main visual of the entire work.
To achieve the ideal floating effect, we spent quite a bit of energy on movement guidance. Since it was a single-leg curled pose, we had to be exceptionally careful about the exertion of the ankles and toes, needing to maintain limb extension without tightening the muscle lines too rigidly. The leather waist corset and leg loops both carry a strong sense of functionality; putting them on produces a clear sense of self-constraint. This physical restriction actually makes it very easy to help the performer enter the character's emotional state, feeling the atmosphere of surviving and struggling in a marginal world.
These photos with a strong industrial texture and contrast aesthetics are actually meant more to convey an understanding of the character's inner core. I wanted to try to restore that solitary soul walking in the urban jungle through costumes, props, expressions, and background atmosphere. This process of dedicatedly portraying the character also made me re-reflect on the touch brought by the original story. In this vast space filled with mechanical coldness, being able to capture a frozen moment of the character through the lens is inherently a very wondrous thing.
