[Rem cosplay] Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World: Anime convention Photo Drop

A portion of the photos from the Anime convention the other day is finally edited, so let's get right into the pictures. The shoot took place at the convention and exhibition center amidst huge crowds, so managing to snag this relatively open space for full-body shots was no easy feat. I had been standing for hours starting from the morning ticket check-in line, and the AC inside wasn't very strong. Running around all day in this costume left my stamina pretty depleted by the afternoon. It had been so long since I wore an outfit with so much stiff structural support that my lower back and body were aching by the end of the day.

Speaking of the outfit experience, it's a classic maid style, but the layered skirt and frills are definitely much heavier than they appear. To maintain the flared curve of the skirt, several layers of petticoats were worn underneath; every step required cautious handling so I wouldn't trip over the hem. The White stockings paired with a lace leg ring served as the finishing touch, complementing the black leather shoes to visually elongate the legs. The neckline and cuffs featured delicate ruffle trim, and the fabric had great texture without looking cheap and shiny. However, breathability was just average, making walking around a stuffy Anime convention all day quite an ordeal.

The wig is a vivid light blue, which reflected slightly under indoor lighting, making me worry during makeup application that it might look unnatural. I later styled it with hairspray to let the soft pink accent drape naturally. The makeup went for a clear, cool-toned palette, blending light blue and soft pink across the eyes, which on camera aligned nicely with the original character design. Shaping the brows and eyeliner took considerable precision—with constant sweating at the Anime convention, I even touched up in the restroom midway through, terrified that smudging would ruin the look.

Following the photographer's posing guidance required close coordination: gently pinching the skirt hem with one hand while letting the other hang naturally, leaning forward slightly to find my balance—without the wide skirt providing visual stability, I probably couldn't have held the stance. Lighting in the hall was a major challenge; harsh overhead downlights easily cast awkward facial shadows. These shots relied heavily on backlight and fill light, followed by detailed post-processing to fix highlight blowout and dark shadow corners. After such a long shoot, smiling at the camera for so long left my face feeling stiff on the way home.

Regardless, getting this set out with results I'm happy with feels great. Going to an Anime convention is all about soaking in the atmosphere; hearing people call my name and having fans come over for photos was genuinely heartwarming. Exhausting as it was, it made for an unforgettable cosplay experience that was well worth the trip. Editing gave me eye strain at times, forcing me to take breaks, but post-production mainly cleaned up background clutter while preserving a subtle cool-toned ambiance for a smooth, cohesive texture. Among many raw shots, I selected my favorites for retouching, and I feel my editing skills still have room to grow.
