Proxy, care for a ride?
This finished set brings to life Ellen Joe cosplay from Zenless Zone Zero for the Yadea collaboration. To capture the Shark girl's signature blend of languid nonchalance and underlying lethality, we staged the shoot outdoors beside a vintage red taxi. A gentle drizzle on the day of the shoot left lingering raindrops across the car windows, serving as an organic filter that gifted the entire scene a retro, cinematic street aesthetic.
First, regarding the styling details: to recreate Ellen Joe's iconic features, I wore a short black wig streaked with red gradient highlights, carefully layering the bangs to contour the head with an effortlessly disheveled texture. Crimson contact lenses and the beauty mark beneath my right eye formed the true soul of the makeup. For wardrobe, I styled an oversized off-the-shoulder black jacket over a cropped black camisole printed with red flames, paired with denim shorts below. The monochrome geometric choker around my neck and the leather thigh straps heightened her rebellious streetwear edge. For the Yadea collaboration element, I fastened the official collaboration lanyard along my hip—a subtle yet fitting Easter egg.
The core challenge during the shoot lay in projecting dynamic character tension within the cramped confines of the vehicle. I tested multiple postures: leaning across the driver's seat with one hand gripping the steering wheel and the other holding a prop cigarette, casting a hazy, detached gaze into the lens. This pose not only tested lumbar core stability, but also required flattering leg contouring. Another setup involved resting an arm over the rolled-down window and leaning half out, utilizing the car door frame as natural compositional framing. Posing with a red soda can and a lollipop accentuated that stark contrast—seeming completely carefree, yet ready to flip into lethal combat mode at any instant.
Photographer @SanwuTractor excelled at seizing candid moments, advising me against rigid posing and encouraging me to simply inhabit the headspace of a Shark girl cruising the urban streets. Often just spacing out against the headrest or watching the city traffic yielded the most organic frames. The wet asphalt after the rain, the vintage red taxi body, and yellow traffic signs created vibrant color clashes that lent powerful visual punch to the finished set.
I spent hours curled up inside the vehicle for this shoot, stepping out periodically to stretch when my legs went numb, continuously refining fabric folds and hair strands so every shot could withstand close-up inspection. As a cosplayer, I always believe garment texture and character nuance form the true backbone of bringing an avatar to life. This Yadea collaboration with Zenless Zone Zero gave players and cosplayers huge creative room to translate urban tactical flair into real-world settings, making for an incredibly engaging Game cosplay experience. It was far more than an ordinary photoshoot; it felt like stepping into a parallel universe to experience Ellen Joe's daily life.
This outdoor street trial gave me a fresh perspective on urban street aesthetics, and I look forward to exploring more diverse lighting and body language for future characters to deliver even richer narrative imagery.
