For this shoot, I deliberately chose a Horizontal composition as a subtle rebellion against the current era of vertical short videos. While scrolling up and down on phone screens has become second nature, landscape orientation accommodates far richer environmental detail, making it easier to articulate the spatial relationship between the character and her surroundings. Within this Claw machine concept, the wide frame spanned just enough to pull the pink metal scaffolding and surrounding plush toys seamlessly into the frame.
To align with this framing, I adjusted my poses substantially. Horizontal visual flow guides the eye left and right, meaning one cannot simply rely on elongating vertical height as in portrait orientation; instead, the body must unfurl along diagonals and horizontal axes. In seated poses, for example, I shifted my balance to one side while extending my legs diagonally forward. This created spatial depth while beautifully accentuating leg lines and the smooth texture of the White stockings. Dressed in Alice's white lace frock accented by plush bunny ears and White stockings, the overarching mood favored ethereal softness. Lounging across cloud-like plush fleece or curling beside clear acrylic shelves injected evocative narrative depth into the visuals.
The Claw machine backdrop served as a potent 2D icon in itself, where pastel pink and purple ambient glows cultivated an unreal, enveloping sanctuary. Managing the live set demanded rigorous control, as reflective surfaces and diffused bouncing glare could easily dilute the visual focal point. I kept illumination soft and even, avoiding harsh, distracting cast shadows. The white ribbons spiraling around my arms, the lace choker at my neck, and the plush bunny ears had to be positioned with precision before the lens to prevent visual clutter.
Post-processing centered on amplifying the dreamscape. In the tonal foundation, I lifted the overall exposure toward high-key brightness, lending the pink palette a luminous, airy clarity. The core breakthrough lay in hair rendering: to honor Alice's persona, hair required illuminated strand highlights alongside an anti-gravity floating effect dialed to high intensity. Activating these parameters instantly manifested that surreal, upward-drifting hair flow. Strands that hung flat in raw captures transformed into weightless tendrils, looking as though suspended inside a gravity-free wonderland.
For environmental effects, I introduced soft, delicate mist rather than aggressive magical flames or lightning, preserving the quiet, gentle cadence of the styling without overpowering the subject. Retouching often forces a choice between authentic skin grain and complete anime stylization; I balanced facial dimensional contouring with gentle smoothing, tuning skin tones to harmonize with the wig palette at the intersection of reality and fantasy.
Horizontal composition can easily shrink on mobile displays, so I scrutinized subject proportions prior to exporting to ensure the focal weight remained anchored. Choosing a landscape layout was my invitation for viewers to pause their vertical scrolling, taking a moment to wander across the tiny props and dappled play of light and shadow.
