For this location shoot, I started preparing Elysia's outfit long in advance. The clothing has numerous layers; the red, white, and pink color scheme might look a bit vibrant in daily life, but when worn along with the wig and makeup, that dreamy feeling instantly emerges. Especially the designs at the waist and back are quite exquisite in detail. The complete outfit includes a corset, multi-layered skirt hem, sleeve covers, and various ribbons. The dressing process is quite complex and requires the help of a companion to tie the back straps securely.
In terms of props, to restore that elegant feeling, I brought a spear and that trumpet. Despite looking lightweight, their holding posture and center of gravity constantly need adjustment, especially during pose shooting where you must make the movements look light while ensuring the props don't fall, which really tests arm strength. Raising the spear with one hand makes the center of gravity hard to control, requiring repeated adjustments of finger grip positions while maintaining a calm expression.
Grooming the wig also took a lot of thought. The pink-and-white gradient combined with the bangs on the forehead required a lot of hairspray and clips to ensure it wouldn't get messy while walking outdoors. Makeup focused on deepening the eye depth, paired with pink eyeshadow and lip makeup to closely match the character's temperament. Setting spray was also used generously to maintain makeup longevity. The pink patterns on the gloves and the decorations on the arms also needed meticulous alignment to ensure perfection from every angle.
The shooting location was chosen on a wooden boardwalk in a park, surrounded by tall broad-leaved plants, and the light spots sprinkled through the leaves by the sunlight were gorgeous. The first set of pictures was mainly standing poses; I tried lifting one leg to elongate my figure while showcasing the combination of the skirt hem and white Stockings. This posture really tests core strength, and legs get sore after standing for a long time, but seeing the final photos makes it all worthwhile. To capture the best lighting, we repeatedly adjusted angles at this spot and even tried different focal lengths to highlight the background's depth of field.
Later, we moved to a place with grass and a distant city view, just in time for sunset. The rim lighting under the backlight was an unexpected pleasant surprise of this shoot. When turning my back to the camera, I focused on showcasing the heart-shaped cutout design and the train on the back, making the whole frame more narrative. The golden glow of the setting sun fell on the pink-and-white skirt hem, with very soft colors. To shoot that close-up of handing a rose, I squatted halfway and adjusted my hand posture for a long time, just to make the rose's orientation and gaze match perfectly.
The skirt hem of this outfit is very long, requiring special attention when walking on the grass to avoid being scratched by branches or weeds. Also, those red high heels look great, but walking on uneven ground indeed requires care. Although the whole process was a bit tiring, being able to present different facets of the character under varying light and shadows made it a very satisfying shooting experience. Shooting from noon until evening, although the physical exhaustion was huge, every single photo embodies the team's hard work, and I hope this presentation lets everyone feel the character's charm.
