Preparing and shooting this Aemeath set took quite a lot of thought and effort. Since she is a game character, many material details of the costume had to be carefully sourced and customized. The white tight-fitting fabric on the chest is very stretchy; to keep it flat and prevent color fading, it needed to be secured with specialized tape. The black-and-white metallic ornamental pieces around the neckline were custom-made at a model shop and spray-painted; to give them a realistic sense of weight, sponge padding was added around the neck. The blue gem was also custom-made, casting clear reflections under strong lighting.
For this shoot, studio photography with hard lighting was specifically chosen, mainly because the costume features numerous highlight sections, and the translucent purple sleeves transmit light wonderfully under intense illumination. The teal-green patterns on the gloves were hand-painted stroke by stroke; the reflective material looks very dimensional under cool light. To fit the theme's feeling of an invitation to save the world, I deliberately struck an outstretched-hand pose. This pose was actually tricky to master because it required balancing lens perspective while keeping the lines of the arm and shoulder natural rather than stiff.
The wig was one of the more technically demanding parts this time. Pink hair is naturally bright; to achieve the layered texture from the character setting, I used a styling iron to section and curl the hair, then applied styling spray to shape the sidelocks to flatter the face shape in frontal shots. The contact lenses were chosen from several pairs, finally settling on this pale yellow with a unique texture. Wearing them slightly restricted my vision, but capturing that divine quality in the eyes was a necessary compromise. During makeup, I added subtle details under the eyes, pairing them with highlighter to make the facial features more dimensional, and painted the blue-green pattern across the chest using hypoallergenic body paint.
In reality, the most exhausting part of indoor studio shooting is constantly readjusting one's state. Because the outfit is form-fitting, range of motion was restricted, requiring checks after every shutter click to see if the outfit shifted, if the gloves creased, or if the catchlight hit the eyes just right. We tried several different angles during the shoot, such as looking back with a slight body turn or resting a finger against the chest. From my experience, movements don't need to be exaggerated; subtle shifts in gaze and hand gestures convey the character's temperament much better. During the shoot, I also referenced character artwork to gradually capture Aemeath's composed yet mysterious aura, which was completely different from casual everyday snaps.
In post-processing, we mainly preserved the cool-toned atmosphere and darkened the background, giving the subject an otherworldly sci-fi vibe. I retained the raw texture without excessive retouching, primarily correcting optical distortion at the lens edges. Whenever dealing with layered accessories and complex costumes, I realize just how much energy is poured into creating a great cosplay photoshoot. Maintaining composure and tuning emotions in front of the lens, I hope this work intuitively expresses my love for this world setting.
Through this experience, I also gained plenty of insights into handling complex gear. For instance, with the sleeve and glove combination, paying extra attention to angles while posing was crucial to avoid revealing flaws. I hope that while enjoying these photos, everyone can feel the character's intrinsic charm and my dedication to this setting.
