On the first day as a Mengzhou intern, the clothing details of this Hsin outfit were indeed much more complex than I expected. Just putting on this outfit took a long time; the splicing of black, red, white, and gold heavily tests the tailoring. The gradient gemstone on the chest and the tedious golden base chains needed to be adjusted bit by bit to ensure visual balance.
To restore this styling, I spent a long time working on the hair. Black highlights were blended into the white wig, and the bangs needed to be trimmed with layering. Fixing that pair of plush kemonomimi on top of the head was a major project because the edge of the ears features golden metal twig-and-leaf accessories, which are not light. They needed to be cross-fixed onto the wig net with many hairpins, and I would worry about them falling off if I turned my head slightly too wide. The red flame patterns from the center of the eyebrows to the forehead, and the large-area red totem below the collarbone, were all drawn bit by bit using specialized body paint pens. To avoid staining the clothes, I kept a straight sitting posture almost the entire time after finishing the painting.
The material of the costume is extremely rich. The main body is made of black tight-fitting fabric, paired with white pleated cloth and lightweight semi-transparent red-gray sheer sleeves. Because the neckline design of the upper body is relatively low, to support the silhouette of this outfit, I specially applied breast petals and adjusted the posture of my shoulders and neck. The action of raising both hands is actually to let the wide sleeves and the plush decorations on the shoulders fully spread out, which can better showcase the overall silhouette of the clothes. The gesture of fingers touching the lips in the second photo was something I wanted to add myself for a bit of playful interactivity.
During the shoot, the light hitting the body paint on my face and the gemstone on my chest created a refractive sheen that pleasantly surprised me. Although everyone says "please don't pressure an intern anymore," in order to present the character's state, I still silently practiced my expressions and actions outside the lens for a long time, trying to make every frozen frame look natural and tense. The waistline of this outfit is cinched very tightly, and the golden chains and red ribbons hanging from the waist make a crisp clashing sound when walking, with plenty of detail texture. Although the whole shooting process was a bit tiring, seeing the images presented in the camera made me feel that all the tediousness was worth it.
