[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project Forest travel photoshoot: Freezing Moments of Light and Shadow

Heading into the mountains with this gear—featuring heavy lace and a black-and-white dress—was quite a challenge. Because the costume has many layers, along with the oversized witch hat and underskirt, it frequently snagged on branches while navigating through the dense forest, so we took some precautions beforehand. The prop team meticulously handled the moss wrapping around the tree branches, maintaining an authentic, naturally overgrown wild feel. The location for this photoshoot was a moss-covered primeval forest, which has an extremely high fidelity to the Magic Forest setting of Marisa in Touhou Project.

During the shoot, we mainly relied on natural light. The dapples of afternoon sunlight filtering through the gaps between tree leaves were very harsh, but that large contrast ratio was ideal for carving out the subject's contours. Most of the time was spent adjusting camera angles; for example, the standing pose in the first photo was taken from the most favorable light angle, where backlighting made the golden braid glow with translucency. The second and third shots were overhead and profile angles taken while lying down, requiring me to settle fully into the bed of fallen leaves. Combined with the Tyndall effect streaming from overhead, the entire frame took on a tranquil serenity. To avoid a cluttered forest floor during shooting, we used foreground plants for soft bokeh framing, adding depth to the composition.

Although the terrain was rough and the outfit was heavy, the Light and shadow texture left across the black lace and white apron in the final shots was deeply satisfying. That is precisely the most captivating aspect of a Forest travel photoshoot under natural light—every subtle shift in illumination brings an entirely distinct atmosphere.
