This Amiya photoshoot was mainly shot outdoors at the Mirror of the Sky scenic area, aiming to capture the translucent serenity where water meets sky under Backlit photography. Due to extensive mirror-like water reflections, the sunlight that day was exceptionally harsh. To avoid pitch-black facial shadows or a blown-out background, I communicated repeatedly with the photographer to fine-tune exposure parameters, ultimately opting for a technique that pulls down highlight blowouts in backlighting. This allowed a soft halo glow around the edges of the hair and wide-brimmed hat, emphasizing the solitary journey of a wandering traveler.
Wardrobe-wise, the wide hat brim was a huge hurdle: a slight gust of wind would blow it backward, so we had an assistant hide behind me to anchor it with clips. The skirt hem and trailing ribbons at the back also required constant smoothing out to prevent them from twisting together. The instrument prop was actually quite lightweight, but during the shoot, precise bow angles were necessary to make it look realistic and textured under the camera lens. Composition proved crucial during shooting; for example, in low-angle shots, to elongate leg lines during this Stockings cosplay, I intentionally pointed my instep to tighten leg muscles, paired with a subtle forward hip tilt that, alongside the mirror reflections on the water, delivered immense visual impact. The glaring sunlight made keeping eyes fully open difficult, so most shots adopted slightly upturned or half-lowered head angles, projecting a cool aloofness while cleverly bypassing squinting.
During pre-production, I reviewed numerous reference illustrations, realizing the dynamic motion of this character in the wind was incredibly captivating, so we aimed to trigger the shutter the exact moment the skirt and hair fluttered. Posing for extended periods was certainly exhausting, especially walking across the mirror-like surface in high heels, which placed heavy strain on the ankles; yet to keep the skirt from dragging in the water, maintaining strict core balance was essential at all times. In post-processing, we pulled down expansive blown-out highlights from Backlit photography while preserving background cloud textures, applying symmetrical treatments to the water reflections to enrich the quiet, serene atmosphere. This series was shot strictly in the restrained, cool style I adore, avoiding exaggerated facial expressions to retain the traveler's detached aura. To highlight the starry details on the skirt, saturation adjustments were minimized to preserve authentic raw tones. Overall, it was a photoshoot that tested physical endurance and synergy with the photographer—wrapping up only after my legs were trembling, which is precisely what makes cosplay so deeply fulfilling.
