Putting on this Arknights Momoka Hanyuu cosplay outfit, the very first thing I felt was the substantial, high-quality texture of the reddish-brown plaid fabric. To capture the character's subtly retro and playful vibe, I put a lot of thought into the hair and makeup. The wig was specifically chosen for its layered pink tones, and the two dark brown bow hair accessories on top had to be adjusted to a symmetrical yet natural angle so they wouldn't look stiff. For the eye makeup, I focused on deepening the outer corners, pairing it with light-colored lenses to make my gaze appear more vivid and dynamic. The white standing collar with thin black ribbons at the neckline, along with the prominent red bow on the chest, are the true soul details of this look. The golden chain around the waist swayed gently with every step, showcasing a lovely texture under the sunlight.
The shooting location was an outdoor amusement park, where the white merry-go-round and railings in the background matched the outfit's color palette perfectly. It was around two or three in the afternoon, and the sunlight was intense. To ensure even lighting on my face, photographer C and I tested several angles beside the pillars. To capture the most natural state, I simply rested my hand on the white pillar and relaxed, letting the photographer snap away. The first shot—a side profile looking back over my shoulder—happened just as I found my balance and turned toward the lens; the wind caught the ends of my hair with a perfect curve, and the shutter clicked. The second shot, looking down, was because the sun was too glaring—I subconsciously closed my eyes slightly with a smile playing on my lips, which the photographer keenly captured. The third front-facing smile felt more interactive: holding the pillar, body tilted slightly, looking directly into the lens. The framing and emotional delivery of that shot made it my personal favorite.
There were quite a few little hiccups during the shoot. The amusement park had a steady stream of visitors, so we had to wait for crowds in the background to disperse before pressing the shutter. Long pink wigs easily get tangled in the outdoor breeze, requiring me to comb through the bangs and side locks every few shots. Since it's a sleeveless plaid dress, arm movements also had to be measured to avoid looking too rigid in the frame. Photographer C was fantastic at guiding poses, telling me where to look and how to rest my hands naturally. To capture that smiling, downward glance, we stood in that exact spot for nearly twenty minutes, just waiting for the right gust of wind to fluff the wig while the sunlight hit my cheek at the perfect angle.
The metallic chain at the waist made soft, jingling sounds as I walked back and forth in front of the merry-go-round. The plaid texture was remarkably distinct in natural light, contrasting cleanly with the black ruffled hem to create clear visual depth. Although the shoot wasn't excessively long, moving outdoors in this outfit required maintaining good posture. Because the skirt is quite voluminous, I had to smooth it out carefully whenever sitting down to prevent creases from showing in later shots.
Looking at the final photos, seeing the pink hair contrast against the reddish-brown plaid under the blue sky and white clouds made the intense sun and endless wig-adjusting entirely worth it. The entire session was very casual and spontaneous, focusing less on rigid poses and more on natural interactions fitting the merry-go-round setting. I am very pleased with how faithful this styling turned out, and the color combination pops wonderfully outdoors.
