The most exciting aspect of shooting Requiem from Neverness to Everness was the industrial Street style aesthetic. The bold red, white, and black techwear palette is instantly striking. Paired with black-and-white twintails along with red heart and cross eye motifs, the look balances a cool edge with quirky, playful charm. To recreate the character's mischievous gap-moe contrast on camera, we prepped a giant red tomato plushie and real ketchup packets as interactive props.
The studio set was remarkably distinctive. We selected a venue furnished with discarded oil drums, vintage CRT monitors, graffitied roll-up shutter doors, and a worn brown leather sofa. Flanked by red and blue neon side-lighting paired with haze effects, the set immediately established an intense atmosphere blending cyber-street and wasteland punk. The photographer provided great technical direction on visual framing, such as using wide-angle lenses to elongate leg lines, making the Black stockings and combat boots look striking and sleek.
For pose choreography, we highlighted the 'tomato' motif. Shots ranged from dynamic one-legged stances hoisting the giant tomato high to ground-kneeling close-ups shielding the face with the back of a hand, as well as combat stances wielding a frying pan. Adding the frying pan was an unexpected touch that injected lively humor into the shoot. The series seated on the leather sofa focused on leg contours with crossed legs, where specular highlights catching the Black stockings rendered crisp, beautiful fabric textures.
The wig was a spliced black-and-white gradient design; styling high twintails required meticulous sculpting and spray-setting, which, alongside matching hair accessories, gave the character strong dimension. Throughout shooting, I explored nuanced micro-expressions. Because Requiem carries an unapologetically rebellious streak, I kept my gaze sharp, aloof, yet laced with sly cunning. The makeup took careful precision, repeatedly tweaking the placement of the dark under-eye circles and crimson hearts to echo the contact lens shade.
The session was physically demanding due to constant pose shifts and the heft of the straps and garments, but seeing the final deliverables made every ounce of effort worthwhile. Carving out such a creative space in a fast-paced city to express this character's eccentric individualism made for a truly fulfilling Cosplay photography experience.
