[Kasugano Sora cosplay] Yosuga no Sora: The Quiet Girl in the Classroom

This Kasugano Sora cosplay photoshoot chose a university Classroom as the location, primarily because the wooden desks and white walls fit the school atmosphere of Yosuga no Sora perfectly. In terms of costume and props, an off-white long-sleeved blouse paired with a pink-brown-and-white plaid pleated skirt, plus black tights and black loafers, created an exceptionally clean feel. The Twintails accessorized with two large black bows were paramount; having pre-ordered the wig, I spent nearly two hours styling its shape before the shoot to achieve the perfect curve, carefully preserving the smoothness of the hair strands while applying setting spray to prevent frizz.

Shooting in a Classroom places high demands on lighting; on set, we relied mainly on natural light filtering from the side windows while using a reflector board to fill light onto the face, keeping skin tones translucent while preserving three-dimensional depth in the shadows. During the shoot, I tried two main poses to convey distinct feelings. The first was sitting atop the desk, holding the book flat over my head with my body tilted slightly for a playful touch. The second was sitting poised on the edge of the chair with legs naturally crossed and hands resting the book on my lap, which fully showcased the leg lines along with the unique texture and sheen of the Black stockings. To find the most flattering, natural angle for leg length, the photographer and I constantly adjusted leg placement and toe direction.

A lot of experimentation went into the makeup as well: I wore reddish-brown contact lenses to reflect the character's eye color, and deliberately drew the eyeliner elongated with a slight upward flick, attempting to capture that aloof yet focused gaze. After wrapping up, my approach to post-processing was restrained—mainly adjusting how ambient light affected the face and clothing, slightly enhancing the contrast of the plaid skirt, and enriching shadow details on the stockings, without exaggerated liquifying or over-smoothing, preserving the authentic texture of both costume and makeup.

This overall styling presents a tranquil, maidenly demeanor, and expressions in the photos were intentionally subdued to focus on the character's reserved temperament. From makeup testing to the actual shoot, every phase required strict control over details, including the crisp fold of the collar and the balance point of holding the book. Through this shoot, I gained a clearer direction on areas to refine when portraying such characters. In the future, I hope to capture this ambiance even more delicately with this prime lens under superior lighting conditions.

The Classroom lighting was at its softest around 3:00 PM, so we picked up the pace to seize this golden window. Moving around in uniform, the drape of the plaid skirt and the snug fit of the Black stockings became details needing constant vigilance, requiring straightening the hem after practically every step. After the shoot, reviewing the raw shots in the camera showed that many angles matched the character as envisioned. During photo selection, several shots with the gentlest lighting and most natural expressions were picked as primary features. Considering that long hair might obstruct the shoulder contours, we made specific adjustments to the placement of the Twintails. Because the set was simple, the composition leaned heavily on body posture, prompting diverse variations in crossed-leg poses and hand gestures to select the most ideal frames. Sharing this photo set also serves as a summary of my recent practice, hoping meticulous refinement makes this classic school uniform look feel more natural. Furthermore, durable makeup setting is vital for extended shoots, especially keeping the partings around the Twintails and wig neat and tidy. To find the best low-angle shot to visually elongate leg proportions, the camera was frequently positioned very low, presenting quite a test of lower back core support. Treating every practice as an opportunity to reveal the character's inner spirit has always been my guiding principle in cosplay; thus, I frequently revisit the original work to study her behavioral mannerisms, hoping the photos brim with life. Wearing Black stockings so faithful to the original design was a fresh experience, and the interplay between accessory colors and skin tones—along with its visual impact—will certainly be put to better use in future shoots.
