For this Traditional Chinese style cosplay look of Azur Lane's Bai Feng, we made several pattern adjustments right from the tailoring stage. To match the character's temperament, we integrated more anime-inspired nuances atop traditional Chinese tailoring—such as black patterned motifs across the chest and a white choker at the neckline—ensuring the ensemble retains classical elegance without feeling rigid. The wig chosen was waist-length, silver-white straight hair complemented by white winged hair accessories. To ground this ethereal lightness, the makeup intentionally deepened reddish blending around the eyes paired with classic crimson lips, introducing subtle visual sharpness while maintaining an overall cool porcelain complexion.
Setting up the scene on the day of the shoot took considerable effort. The background moon lightbox, antique wooden table, bamboo scrolls, and wine vessels were all arranged to cultivate an oriental fantasy atmosphere. To break the monotony, we deliberately introduced a pool of blue water into the set. The pose in Photo 2—seated waterside with toes gently dipping into the water's surface—is a composition I particularly adore. White stockings take on a semi-sheer texture when submerged, which, bathed in cool blue lighting, looks exceptionally luminous and ethereal on camera. In contrast, the first shot shows me sitting atop a wooden platform resting my foot on a yellow plush toy, a playful gesture designed to soften the character's haughty detachment and add a touch of everyday charm.
Having frequently shot Game cosplay, I believe an exceptional series relies not solely on costumes and props, but fundamentally on physical expression. The character of Bai Feng carries an innate aloofness, so in the seated posture of Photo 1, I deliberately tilted my upper body slightly back with legs gathered, one hand resting naturally at my chest and eyes gazing straight into the lens, aiming to convey a serene yet mildly scrutinizing gaze. Photo 2 utilized elongated leg lines, resonating with the moon and reflective water in the background, to amplify a tranquil, secluded mood.
Shooting traditional Chinese themes always places high demands on endurance and poise. Maintaining a poised, upright posture while striking poses on a wooden platform for extended periods left my back and waist rather sore. Yet seeing the interplay of light and textures in the final frames—such as the sheen of silk contrasted against the Stockings cosplay and plush fabrics—washed all the exhaustion away. Through this shoot, I realized even more deeply that merging Chinese aesthetics with anime characters requires finding visual equilibrium rather than simply piling on motifs. From smoothing every strand of the wig to angling the folds of the skirt hem, every micro-detail shapes the final frame. I hope this creative attempt brings a fresh visual experience to everyone.
