This shoot took place by the sea; although the wind was strong, it harmonized wonderfully with the flowing lightness of the outfit. The weather was overcast with thick cloud cover, offering soft, diffused light that cast a cool blue tone across the ocean surface, setting a remarkably clean, pristine baseline for the entire set.
In terms of makeup and styling, this Unicorn look features abundant fine details. The primary challenge was styling the wig—the long pale-purple hair easily tangled in the wind, so I applied multiple layers of setting spray beforehand, paying special attention to keeping the bangs and side locks voluminous and structured. The headpiece combines black ribbon bows with golden cross emblems alongside a delicate white lace veil, all of which had to be securely anchored to the wig to withstand the ocean gusts. The dress is a white off-the-shoulder gown featuring ruffled hems at the neckline and sleeves, black ribbon bows at the shoulders, and gold anchor charms that blend uniform-like structure with the soft elegance of a bridal gown. For the lower half, I selected a White thigh-highs outfit featuring matte white tights with a delicate texture, pairing seamlessly with white shoes for a coordinated, pristine look.
As for props, the unicorn plush doll is the very soul of the character. I cleaned it thoroughly beforehand to keep the white fur immaculate—the golden horn and purple eyes held closely in arms felt plush and reassuring. Alongside the doll, the photographer prepared an artificial bouquet blending white, pink, and pale-purple roses with long trailing ribbons. As the ribbons and dress fluttered together in the ocean breeze, the visual impact was truly breathtaking.
The shooting process was far more demanding than anticipated. The loose beach sand made walking in heeled shoes tricky as they easily sank. To capture a nimble, dynamic presence near the water, we executed various action poses. For instance, in the third photo, I lifted one leg while standing in the shallows to catch the reflection on the water's surface, repeating the take multiple times until the water calmed enough for a complete mirror reflection. With waves constantly rolling in, the hem of the dress and white stockings were often soaked, leaving feet coated in sand and seawater; yet to capture that serene, subtly playful aura, every ounce of effort was worthwhile.
The photographer excelled at guiding natural expressions: glancing back over the shoulder, gazing tenderly down at the plush doll, or reaching out to offer the bouquet toward the lens in a warm, interactive gesture. The shots kneeling on the damp sand were particularly tranquil and gentle, capturing the character's quiet grace despite the soaked hem feeling chilly against the skin. This authentic outdoor setting and spontaneous ocean breeze gave the photos organic vitality that studio sessions can never match.
As a cosplayer, every outdoor excursion is a brief, immersive character journey. Relying entirely on natural daylight without artificial fill light preserved the authentic purity of the sea, sky, wind, and sun. The white fabric looked gorgeous under natural light, where even small water-stained creases held a touch of genuine romance. Though this breezy beach shoot was exhausting, capturing an image set filled with the scent of the sea breeze was deeply satisfying.
