This time I'm trying on the outfit for Götz von Berlichingen from Azur Lane, featuring extensive dark glossy elements and red accents.
Because the costume details are quite intricate—especially the combination of patent leather and ruffles—it took a long time after putting it on to adjust each piece's placement to restore the proportional feel from original character art as much as possible. Caring for this glossy material is indeed trickier than standard fabrics. To maintain an even highlight reflection across the surface, extra caution was required when dressing, undressing, and adjusting folds to prevent leaving creases. The corset strapping around the torso effectively tightens the waistline, but due to the fabric's lack of elasticity, larger movements created a noticeable tugging feel. Visually speaking, these complex crisscross straps are very effective at elongating upper body proportions, while the silver metal collar ornament, though lightweight, provides a nice accent under dim red lighting.
The large area of spliced red ruffles on the lower body is the most striking visual element of this look. These multi-layered pleats bring a very full sense of volume, offering great dynamic flow during movement. When actually wearing it, you realize hard lining canvas was likely added inside the ruffles to hold the shape; fortunately, weight control was decent, without adding too much burden to the waist.
For accessories, the black horned headpiece was crafted more finely than expected, featuring textured surfaces and good center-of-gravity balance that kept it in place without shifting unless shaking my head violently. The black bat wings on the back were the largest accessory, secured via buckles; lightweight materials ensured that even with a wide wingspan, shoulder pressure wasn't overly exaggerated. Hands used detachable gloves and sleeves—this separated design allows free finger movement, though achieving a natural grip pose required conscious control over tension.
Leg styling was a highlight of this entire Cosplay outfit. Thigh-high garter buckles combined with silver metal hardware provided a distinct visual focal point. The black over-the-knee boots underneath fit calf lines closely, while platform heels provided solid balance so standing remained effortless. The gap between thigh straps and boot tops sat right at mid-thigh, accompanied by a slice of sheer black thigh-high stocking revealing skin, breaking the monotony of overall black coverage just right. To ensure visual effect of leg bands, I repeatedly adjusted tightness before shooting to let edges create a subtle slight squeeze without deforming.
Since this was a self-shot indoor session, I used a phone and extension pole. Covering my face with the phone aimed to focus attention on garment textures. I specifically picked a stepped area indoors, utilizing height differences and red/white light source contrast to enhance environmental narrative. This sequined, patent leather texture is light-sensitive; top lighting created distinct contrast in reflection areas, though it easily reflected surrounding clutter at certain angles, making phone highlight suppression key to output quality.
To showcase the character's sharp yet mysterious aura, I chose wide standing poses during shooting—such as spreading legs slightly or tilting sideways—which helped present skirt layers and boot lines. Wearing winged back props required keeping the spine straight, causing noticeable muscle fatigue during fitting. From dressing, adjusting details, to testing lighting setups on stands, the process took nearly two hours.
Fitting with medium props requires more patience to adjust than standard attire. Material combinations met expectations, with glossy reflections effectively recreating the luster and refinement of 2D character art, while the red-and-black color blocking proved striking in practice. This record stands as a rewarding Anime-style look experience, balancing character restoration with practical output, leaving potential for different flavors in suitable outdoor settings next time.
