[Unicorn Cosplay] Azur Lane: Classroom Everyday Moments with White Stockings and Volleyball

This classroom-themed Unicorn photoshoot has finally wrapped up successfully, taking nearly half a month from pre-production planning to final photo delivery. The original motivation behind planning this set was very simple: I wanted to capture that relaxed, effortless everyday feeling of school life. To find the right venue, I scouted locations several times in advance before finally settling on this classroom featuring a large chalkboard and wooden storage lockers. The weather was wonderful on shooting day; natural sunlight streamed through the windows, and the smiley face casually doodled on the blackboard added a charming touch of playfulness to the frame.

Let's talk about the wardrobe and styling first. I chose a white knit cardigan featuring plush pink cloud patches on the chest, layered over a classic navy sailor collar embroidered with a white anchor emblem and tied with a soft pink neckerchief—the overall color palette was delightfully harmonious. The lower half paired a navy pleated skirt with pure white pantyhose. Visually, the white stockings not only streamlined leg contours, but also resonated wonderfully with Unicorn's soft, cuddly demeanor. The wig featured a gradient from pale lavender to soft sky blue styled into twintails; after putting it on, I styled a perky ahoge cowlick on top and fastened two small red hairpins, which immediately gave the character dimensional vitality.

For props, two key items were prepared: a blue, yellow, and white volleyball, and a white plush Unicorn mascot doll. The volleyball served as a fantastic interactive prop that kept hand poses from feeling awkward. For example, in the cover photo where I sit on the desk with legs extended and crossed, placing the volleyball beside me not only visually lengthened the leg line, but also anchored the frame with a balanced center of gravity. Meanwhile, candid shots hugging the plushie or holding it out toward the lens captured the character's layered, innocent, and pouting emotions. To capture the most authentic expressions, the photographer avoided rigid posed setups, opting instead for high-speed burst shots while I played around, catching those effortless moments where gaze and posture were at their most relaxed.

Speaking of gear, this session was shot on a Sony A7M5 paired with a 24-70mm GM II lens. The autofocus speed and rendering power of this combination offered absolute peace of mind; in a classroom setting with tricky indoor lighting, both shallow depth-of-field bokeh and corner-to-corner sharpness were impeccably preserved. The 24-70mm focal range proved exceptionally versatile, capturing expansive environmental compositions while zooming in smoothly for intimate medium close-ups without the hassle of lens swaps.

Regarding post-processing, this set was not a direct out-of-camera delivery. During initial grading in Lightroom, I dialed the white balance slightly cool and lifted the shadows, imbuing the scene with a crisp, airy mood. Portrait retouching software was then used for skin handling, prioritizing the retention of natural skin texture and clearing blemishes without aggressive over-smoothing to keep things authentic. Finally, a subtle bloom pass was applied in Photoshop to add a gentle, dreamy glow across highlight regions—the secret behind that ethereal anime dreaminess in the final images.

Though balancing makeup, choreography, emotion, and lighting was demanding, seeing all these elements melt together seamlessly made every bit of effort worthwhile. This set represents a successful alignment of scene ambiance and character mood, turning my inner creative vision for this character into tangible reality.
