To flawlessly embody the persona of Yae Miko from Genshin Impact, comprehensive preparation went into the wardrobe and props for this on-location session. The primary palette features a bold red-and-white harmony; to achieve that structured yet gracefully draping silhouette seen in the game, we sampled multiple fabrics before settling on the final cuts. The black underbust corset at the waist and the red diamond-patterned skirt are key highlights, with golden crests and tassels custom-crafted and tailored by hand down to the finest stitch—especially the circular gold filigree accenting the hem, which required meticulous craftsmanship. Styling the pink wig demanded equal patience: short pink cuts easily fall flat, requiring pomade and flatirons to build airy volume and dimensional layers step by step, while shaping the side tendrils to contour the jawline naturally in character. The gradient tones on the fox ears were custom hand-painted as well, softly transitioning from orange to gold for lifelike nuance.
For props, the handheld Kagura bell was built by hand using a bamboo framework, white folded shide paper streamers, delicate purple blossom charms, and crimson tassels. To ensure the ribbons fluttered organically in outdoor breezes, the tassel lengths and weights were calibrated through multiple trials. For footwear, I chose red-soled platform block-heeled sandals accented with white strapping and yellow bows; though gorgeous, balancing atop outdoor rockeries demanded immense core stability, requiring constant caution against slippery moss with every pose transition.
The shooting location took place in a classical garden surrounded by rockeries, koi ponds, and historic pavilions. The weather was bright and clear; sunlight filtering through tree leaves cast dappled patterns across the garments and face—visually stunning, yet making fill-light balance challenging. To keep facial illumination even, a side reflector was positioned specifically to lift shadows. The wide, billowing sleeves flowed effortlessly, though they frequently threatened to catch on twigs, so smoothing out the cuffs was necessary before every take.
In terms of pose design, I aimed to capture Yae Miko's signature languid, confident, and subtly mischievous aura. Crossing legs naturally or extending them outward highlighted the high-slit skirt design and elongated leg contours. Hand movements revolved around props—resting my chin in thought, twirling the Kagura bell, or delicately lifting a finger. Directing my gaze through purple contact lenses, I cultivated an effortless touch of haughty tsundere poise. Makeup centered around the outer corners of the eyes, using deep pink-purple eyeshadow to define contours that harmonized seamlessly with the pink hair.
The red-and-white garments formed a vivid color contrast against the lush garden greenery and grey stone rockeries. Weaving these elements together yielded a frame that married the flamboyant flair of Anime cosplay with the serene poise of classical gardens. The high-slit skirt fanned out naturally in seated poses, presenting not just garment design, but the commanding presence of Guuji Yae herself. Although the shooting window was tight, capturing the fleeting light and refining our postures produced countless satisfying frames. While balancing atop rugged stones was exhausting, the results made every effort worthwhile, providing invaluable Outdoor photography experience in uniting costume design with natural landscapes.
