I truly experienced a hardcore marathon schedule of shooting two full photo sets in a single day. Waking up at 5:30 AM on Saturday to start working and not finishing packing up to go home until past 11:00 PM, the rhythm of the entire day was basically cycling through makeup, shooting, changing looks, and shooting again. Although I was so tired that I didn't even want to speak, the moment I saw the final photo delivery, this sense of willful exhaustion became a wonderful wrap-up to the weekend.
The studio we booked this time was Er33 Studio. Their expanded venue is indeed very useful, with two completely different styles of scenes distributed across two areas. One set is Kokomi's vibrant shallow-water style, where the setting not only features a massive translucent glowing jellyfish prop, but is also deliberately decorated with cascading sheer drapes and crystal candelabras. The floor reflection received special treatment; the ripple reflections are incredibly natural—not a simple mirror copy, but carrying a genuine texture of rippling water, maxing out the atmosphere of this scene. The other set is Ganyu's ice-and-snow style scene, featuring a pure white gauze wrapping paired with classical Roman column elements. Combined with luminous butterflies in the foreground and scattered glowing particles, the overall visual is exceptionally translucent and pure.
The makeup this time was handled by Teacher Xiao Lan from Wu Ge Su. Teacher Xiao Lan is truly skilled at wig styling; the orange-pink double-bun updos for Kokomi's outfit, along with the subsequent blue gradient transition, feature very clean and crisp lines. The blue curly hair for Ganyu's outfit, paired with her exclusive headpiece and horns, was also meticulously styled—everything from the direction of the hair strands to the makeup details on the face perfectly matches the original design. The materials of both costumes are also highly sophisticated, heavily utilizing tulle, chiffon, and pearl embellishments, which easily create great texture on camera. However, during the shooting process, it was also easy for the fluffiness of the clothes and the length of the trains to affect movements, requiring constant adjustments to standing positions and body angles.
This was also my first official collaboration with photographer and retoucher Teacher Su Ziqing. I had previously heard that he has a knack for controlling light and shadow in studio shoots, and this actual collaboration proved that he fully lives up to his reputation. The lighting is highly nuanced; there is no blunt, harsh light across the entire venue, but rather diffuse reflections and rim lighting used to handle the semi-transparency of the sheer drapes. His guidance on poses on-site is very easy to understand; he won't make you force unnatural body postures but will instead guide you to try various interactive poses according to the angles of the setting, making the process very relaxing. Teacher Su also took full charge of the post-processing. Especially the glowing rim aura of the jellyfish and the glittering particle effects on the ice merge incredibly naturally without any cheap green-screen look. The transition between highlights and shadows throughout the frame is very soft, filming the dreaminess across the dimension wall with the premium feel that a professional studio should have.
Actually, shooting a full cosplay photo set, especially this kind of grand-scale studio shoot, involves far more behind the scenes than it appears. From the early morning hair and makeup styling to testing the lights for various camera positions after entering the studio, and then to completing makeup details during styling changes, every step requires sincere teamwork. Having such a responsible and aesthetically brilliant makeup and photography/post-production team is truly a coser's greatest reassurance. Although it was a back-to-back marathon schedule and the physical exhaustion was very real, being able to leave behind these high-quality images while satisfying my creative desire—with everyone working together finishing the day with smiles—makes this weekend's "Casual cosplay indulgence" completely worth it. I look forward to finding time again in the future to continue turning more fun ideas into final photo deliveries.
