For this shoot, I prepared a casual school look for Nahida Cosplay. Although Nahida canonically resides in the rainforest and the Sanctuary of Surasthana as the God of Wisdom in Genshin Impact, this time I selected a pure white backdrop with a classroom desk and chair as core props, experimenting with integrating her into a school-life setting to see what unique daily vibe might emerge.
The wig was one of the critical focal points of this styling. Featuring silver-white as the dominant shade with emerald green gradient tips, I carefully managed the strand luster to avoid cheap-looking glare. The twin-tail roots were anchored at the crown, with hair clips firmly securing accessories along the sides. The two green hair sections were given natural, gentle curls, keeping the layers distinct while retaining a touch of lively bounce.
The green ribbon hair ornament with golden cut-out filigree is a signature visual anchor for the character; to showcase it properly, I specifically adjusted the orientation of the twin tails during the shoot so they wouldn't obstruct the headpiece. The white horn ornaments on both sides were crafted from lightweight materials, placing minimal pressure on the head and keeping the overall headpiece weight well-balanced.
For the costume, I chose a white-and-green short-sleeved school uniform top. The mint green collar design brings a refreshing, approachable warmth, with a subtle chest motif echoing the white-and-green palette. The lower half features a white-and-green plaid pleated miniskirt of moderate length, allowing ease of movement while flattering the silhouette. Most crucial was the white tights styling—this low-opacity, high-coverage material smoothed out skin tone while creating a seamless visual extension with the white top in this White thigh-highs outfit, making the overall leg lines appear much more slender.
During shooting, instead of forcing exaggerated expressions or poses, I chose to sit naturally on the wooden chair by the desk with legs crossed. My right hand casually flashed a "peace" sign while my left hand gently supported the chair's edge. This seated pose from a low angle with knees together looked remarkably sweet and relaxed on camera. The photographer set up soft light sources from the right and front, ensuring that the textures of both my face and the white tights were preserved without harsh, unflattering shadows.
The classroom desk details also contributed greatly to the composition. The wooden texture of the desktop and the metallic frame enriched the scene, breaking the monotony of the pure white background. Taking off the black strappy leather shoes and placing them on the floor in front was another playful detail, conveying a carefree, relaxed feeling of kicking off your shoes after returning to class.
Speaking of gear and lighting choices, we used a wide-aperture lens paired with high-brightness continuous lights, achieving uniform exposure with crisp edge sharpness. Because white stockings easily look washed out or overexposed under bright lights, the photographer took extra care to preserve highlight detail during metering, which—supplemented by reflector fill—kept skin tones looking natural without turning the white stockings into flat, featureless patches. The overall post-processing avoided excessive liquifying or leg-stretching, as the composition and upward shooting angle were already dialed in, making the raw previews very satisfying.
For makeup, I embraced minimalism—skipping heavy eyeshadow and harsh contouring, relying primarily on concealer and base makeup to achieve a flawless canvas before adding a subtle blush to brighten the complexion. The lipstick was a soft matte pastel pink, which, paired with red contact lenses, closely matched the canon eye color. On camera, this clean, translucent makeup combined with simple poses truly delivered the pure essence true to the character's design.
A minor challenge when wearing white stockings for outdoor or studio shoots is the risk of snags and dust. Before shooting, the floor had to be thoroughly cleaned to ensure the tights remained immaculate in the frame. While sitting looks effortless, keeping legs naturally crossed without bunching the skirt hem required constant micro-adjustments of knee and foot height to achieve the most flattering line.
Every cosplay is a visual reinterpretation of a character's personality. This School style cosplay of Nahida allowed me to glimpse what she might look like in ordinary daily life. I hope these creative reflections and technical attempts bring the vivid charm this photo set deserves in Anime-style photography.
