[Cheshire Cosplay] Azur Lane: Afternoon Whispers of Blue Flowers and Maid

When shooting this blue and white maid outfit, I was constantly thinking about how to express the character's lazy yet playful vibe through facial expressions and body language. Since the theme this time is called "Blue Flowers and Cheshire," the overall set design deliberately opted for a cool-toned blue-and-white atmosphere, paired with these blue-purple artificial flower bouquets and a classical white archway in the background, visually creating a quiet, intimate afternoon courtyard feel.

Let's talk about the costume first. The layering of this costume is exceptionally rich. The upper body features a white low-cut inner lining, spliced with dark blue and dark gold decorations on the outside. The black tie bow at the neck is a crucial visual focal point; I specially adjusted the collar position several times, paired with a small golden pendant, to ensure the character's gorgeous feel without looking bulky. The sleeves are independent ruffled sleeve covers with dark blue lace, exposing shoulders and collarbones when worn. The lower hem combines multi-layered white fabric with a dark blue apron, adorned with golden chain textures, all crafted with great care. Though this large skirt hem looks beautiful, one must be careful to smooth it out when posing, especially for that skirt-lifting action in the photo. Stepping on it accidentally could easily cause an embarrassing expression, so I practiced the strength and angle of lifting the skirt several times during shooting.

In terms of hairstyle and makeup, this wig has a silver-gray base, straight bangs, and very iconic teal highlights on both sides. At first glance, it might seem a bit bold, but it finds a great balance between cool and playful, making it perfect for shooting anime cosplay photos. To give my eyes more penetration, I wore light-colored contact lenses, paired with slightly peach-pink blush, making the overall makeup look more energetic and three-dimensional. To be honest, a wig with gradient highlights is quite difficult to keep smooth. Before shooting, I spent a lot of time using a flat iron and hair oil to make the top and bangs fluffy, because once the bangs stick to the scalp, the spirit of the entire look drops significantly.

Regarding shooting poses and emotions, the first standing pose with the skirt lifted is to display the full silhouette of the outfit, stretching the body as much as possible to look poised and upright. In the second photo, I used a cheek-tapping gesture with a finger, combined with a slight tongue stick-out or playful smile, which served to reinforce the character's lively and affectionate traits. The third cross-legged sitting pose was to express the laziness of the afternoon. In fact, compared to complex movements, eye contact is often more crucial. Here, I needed to make eye contact with the camera while slightly tucking my chin, presenting a vivid "Are you talking to me?" feeling. During the shoot, I almost simulated a dialogue with the character in my mind to find the most comfortable and natural state of expression.

As for the studio environment, the carpet on the floor was specially chosen in dark blue with a golden fret pattern edge, forming a complete cool color scheme with the blue flowers and white pillars in the background. The photographer used a large softbox; this soft light shining on white lace and white stockings creates a wonderful texture. However, using soft light alone can easily flatten the image, so side rim light was added on set to outline my head and shoulders, giving hair edges a faint halo for a dreamier texture.

Actually, the detail that touched me most during this shoot was the feeling of stepping barefoot on the carpet. Compared to wearing high heels, standing barefoot in white stockings better recreates the character's relaxed, lazy state in a private, exclusive setting. Such details might be hard to spot without zooming in, but it's precisely these tiny design choices that make people feel the character in the photo isn't a rigid pose, but truly enjoying an afternoon surrounded by blue flowers.

Overall, this cosplay photography shoot was a very pleasant attempt. Whether in terms of outfit fit or overall style presentation, I feel I captured the character's unique temperament between elegance and playfulness. Although there are many fine laces and ribbons on the skirt hem and sleeves of this outfit that required constant tidying to avoid clutter during shooting, these efforts were ultimately presented in these few photos. From selecting and pairing costumes to fine-tuning accessory details and applying light and shadow, I hoped to interpret this character through my own understanding. These photos may not be absolutely perfect, but they have captured that exclusive scenery of "Blue Flowers and Cheshire" in my heart.
