Today, I'm sharing the photo shoot record of this hospital-themed Asuka set. This time, instead of choosing the iconic red plug suit, I opted for an oversized, morbidly beautiful military-green loose hoodie paired with a black camisole—which actually fits a specific fan-art scenario setting. The hoodie was specially chosen a size larger; the half-on, half-off state flatters the shoulder and neck lines wonderfully while adding a casual, lazy sense of relaxation. The black wide choker around the neck and the iconic eyepatch are the soul props of the entire styling. For the eyepatch material, we tried to pick something skin-friendly, three-dimensional, and non-reflective. Combined with ice-blue contact lenses, it instantly pulls people into the character's setting, giving the gaze greater penetrating power.
Let's talk about the scene setup and lighting arrangement. To recreate the slightly oppressive and cool environment of a hospital, the background featured blue louvred partitions, paired with a cool-toned main light source to establish the basic tone of the frame. The white bedsheets on the hospital bed were intentionally styled with many messy wrinkles to enhance the narrative feel of the image. The most eye-catching elements were the X-ray and CT films suspended in mid-air. To backlight these semi-transparent films, we added dedicated light boxes or strong flashlights behind them, which not only made the bone images on the films clear but also created a visually striking backlit effect. A film viewer was placed on the medical cart beside, along with a hanging blood bag (prepared with red-pigmented water for a very realistic visual effect) and scattered white lilies—all intended to create that unique atmosphere where vitality and coldness intertwine. The addition of plants was also meant to neutralize the coldness of the medical equipment.
During the shoot, expression management was a major challenge. Asuka as a character inherently carries a sense of tsundere pride and stubbornness. Under this special hospital setting, I tried to portray her with a cold, lost, and even slightly vulnerable demeanor. For instance, lying sideways on the hospital bed with the hoodie sliding down naturally to reveal shoulders and thighs, sitting on the floor hugging knees, or turning half-sideways holding an X-ray film while staring straight into the lens, trying to convey a silent tension. Bare feet and red nail polish were also a nice small detail, forming a striking contrast against the white hospital bed and floor, adding a touch of visual focus to the frame. To make the body lines look better, both sitting and lying postures were adjusted for a long time to keep them as relaxed and extended as possible.
The shooting experience this time was extremely special. From costume adjustments to every small prop in the scene, everyone put a lot of thought into pondering the details. I hope this setting, different from the conventional combat suit, allows everyone to see another facet of the character's charm in a different environment.
