[Evernight Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Character Steps into a European Palace

From location selection to the final photos, this cosplay event photo shoot was truly a special experience for me. The shooting location was an indoor set with a strong European classical palace style—tall arches, red and black argyle patterned floors, and warm yellow light from the vaulted ceiling, which perfectly matched our black, white, red, and silver costume.

Let's talk about makeup and hair first. The light white-to-pink gradient wig was paired with a black bow hair accessory featuring silver spiral patterns. I intentionally used pink eyeshadow and light-colored contact lenses, giving off an overall cold and aloof vibe with a sense of distance. The details of the costume were packed with elements: a high white collar with metal buckles, a black outer coat featuring patchwork with crosses and geometric embroidery, chains and ruby pendants hanging from the waist, and asymmetrical tailoring on the sleeves and wrist guards.

My biggest takeaway from wearing this outfit was that it's heavily detailed yet gorgeous, especially when walking through crowds at anime conventions where this black, white, and red color-blocked ensemble stood out remarkably under warm lighting. The black umbrella was the core prop of our shoot—it worked wonderfully whether closed as a walking stick or opened as a backdrop. When opened, the red and black patterns on the umbrella surface resonated with the large red embroidery on the costume. During the shoot, we had to constantly adjust the holding angle of the umbrella, sometimes holding it straight, sometimes resting it across the shoulders, while keeping hand movements from looking stiff, which required a bit more effort than usual when gripping the handle with gloves on.

As for the shot sitting on the high stool (which is also one of my personal favorites), it was actually designed to focus on showing the tailoring and layering of the entire outfit, including the black platform shoes with red soles and white leg warmers with bows. The seated posture allowed the hem of the coat to spread naturally, presenting a very balanced composition. Meanwhile, the half-body close-ups, especially the poses with an index finger placed near the lower lip or reaching out toward the camera, were mainly meant to convey the character's lazy yet mysterious inner personality up close.

The lighting in this palace-style setting was actually quite complex, but the photographer expertly captured the contrast between soft and sharp focus. They not only included the classical stone pillars and ceiling in the shot, but also accurately found the lighting angle to give depth to the light white wig and dimensional dark tones to the black coat. Finally, I have to say that these final photos succeeded thanks to the seamless teamwork with the photographer and retoucher. Retoucher @伪入 preserved the original vintage texture of the building in color grading while enhancing the costume's texture, without overly altering the original light and shadow ambiance. Although taking the whole session drained quite a bit of energy from managing the umbrella, standing poses, and expressions, seeing the final photos made it feel completely worth it.
