This shoot features the Grinning Professor cosplay from Blue Archive. A rather academy-style black uniform paired with a red bow tie, plus the iconic beret and long golden curly hair—I'm quite satisfied with the restoration level of the overall styling. Before the shoot, I specially chose this retro-style indoor scene. The deep brown leather sofa, black-and-white checkered floor, vintage clock, and piano match the character's temperament perfectly. The metal long staff prop was actually quite heavy on set, but holding it in my hand instantly gave that sense of "professor" majesty, even though I am totally someone with a very low laughter threshold in private.
To fit the character's demeanor, I kept adjusting my expressions during the shoot—that slightly upturned corner of the mouth could neither be too deliberate to look fierce nor miss that slightly condescending, playful vibe. It took several tries to find the most natural balance. Special thanks to the photographer for using a 50mm large-aperture lens to capture the light, shadow, and skin texture so translucently. The color grading in post-production also retained the warm tones of the environment, adding a layer of narrative feel to the overall atmosphere.
The fabric of the clothing has a slight sheen under the lights, and the white pleated lace on the skirt hem keeps the dominant black tone from being too dull. The black pantyhose uniform paired with brown leather boots also makes the leg lines look sharper. The shooting process was actually very relaxed. Crossing legs while sitting on the sofa, resting my chin on one hand, or standing up to strike a few poses with the long staff—every movement could instantly find the character's vibe. Maintaining confidence and relaxation in front of the lens has always been the direction I'm learning. This time was a very good attempt, and I hope the photos can convey that sense of calmness from the character where 'everything is under control' in this Anime-style photography project.
