These final Convention photos of Hindenburg cosplay were taken on the second day of the convention. The outdoor lighting conditions were fantastic at the time, and photographer Zhang Shijie captured many satisfying moments. When preparing this outfit, I actually spent considerable effort fine-tuning the garment details.
First is the wig: I chose a straight, pure vibrant red style paired with thick, curved black Demon horns and distinctive red contact lenses. The overall makeup was crafted to closely match the stern yet haughty aesthetic of the Iron Blood faction. The red hair color stood out brilliantly against the outdoor green foliage background, creating great color harmony with the black-and-red wings and battle attire shown in the photos.
The costume design is particularly elaborate. The top features a black ruffled neckline and criss-cross straps, layered over a black leather corset adorned with metallic clasps and silver star embellishments, providing a flattering cinched-waist effect that visually accentuates body proportions. The pleated mini skirt on the bottom and the cutout waistline design on the sides incorporate techwear flair while making various poses effortless. I specially paired black semi-sheer long gloves with Black stockings and a leather leg garter on the thigh; this combination produced a strong visual impact that not only restored the character's formidable presence but also ensured the striking finish needed for convention Convention photos.
During the shoot, I explored several poses. In one shot, placing a finger near my lips in a "shh" gesture was meant to convey the character's scrutinizing and teasing demeanor of "Mortal, you are my Commander." In another shot, lightly lifting the neckline with both hands projected confidence and poise. In high-mobility convention photos like this, the biggest worry is always horns or wings falling off, but fortunately, the props were firmly secured and the shooting process went very smoothly.
The location was set along an outdoor green belt, where sunlight filtered through tree leaves to create natural dappled light and shadow, avoiding the stiffness that purely artificial studio lighting can sometimes bring. While studio shoots offer better light control, on-location shooting allows a character designed for a specific ambiance to blend into the environment more organically. There were many attendees that day with occasional onlookers gathering around; I was a bit nervous at first, but once I got into character and focused on the portrayal, I completely forgot about my surroundings.
In the lore of Azur Lane, as an Iron Blood ship, her attitude toward the Commander always carries a hint of pride and tantalizing distance, so when posing, I intentionally sought to capture that subtle expression of "being high and mighty yet acknowledging the contract." Even without a dedicated narrative-driven set, I feel these photos are enough to convey the core traits of the character.
Additionally, I had brought other gear to test different inner layer combinations, but the black-and-red overarching framework remained the truest to the character's initial impression. Styling such a wig and managing the wings took considerable effort, especially as the weather warmed up, making this costume quite warm and stuffy to wear. However, seeing the final photos made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile. The photographer's composition was clean without background clutter, highlighting the subject prominently. In post-processing, I requested to keep the vivid color saturation of the original shots, clearly showcasing the textures of the Black stockings and leather elements.
