Catching the last train for the CICF Independent anime convention tour, I've truly been scrambling against deadlines lately. The photos of these outfits were gathered across different studios and venues previously, and this application gave me the perfect reason to curate them all at once. The convention atmosphere in Guangzhou has always been fantastic, and applying for the independent tour this time is precisely so I can roam freely through the halls and collect photos with friends.
First, regarding the gothic look in Photo 4: the black base dress adorned with white ruffled trim creates a sharp visual contrast. To complement the overarching aesthetic, I specifically chose polka-dotted gothic fishnet stockings paired with blue boots. Prop-wise, the silver longsword in my left hand and the black greatsword in my right carried substantial weight; sitting on the vintage leather sofa during the shoot required serious core engagement to hold that commanding aura. The makeup focused on deepening eye contours, using cool-toned hues to echo the light blue wig. When walking the convention floor with this style, prop safety is vital—especially cushioning the pointed sword tips with protective measures.
The tactical techwear in Photo 6 brings an entirely different vibe: a high black ponytail infused with bright green streaks, paired with chartreuse translucent horn accessories. The techwear leather jacket and tactical vest feature numerous metallic zippers and clasps. Studio lighting for this set was meticulous, using cool overhead light to accentuate the textile textures. Given the abundance of leather pieces, breathability will be the ultimate challenge if wearing this to the convention in summer, so I've already packed cooling sheets and portable mini fans. The boots have noticeably high heels that cause fatigue over long walks, so I'll likely bring flat shoes as backups on con day.
Photos 1 and 7 showcase Lolita fashion dresses. Photo 1 is a blue-and-white style with rich tiers of lace and ruffles on the skirt hem, paired with white plush beast ears where a crouching pose captures the skirt's voluminous puff beautifully. Photo 7 is a pink ensemble styled with a vintage bonnet and parasol, where the white stockings and pink boots shine as key highlights. Voluminous flared skirts take up significant space at conventions and can easily get pinched in transit doors or stepped on in subways and buses, so I generally prepare a large garment dust cover. The makeup focus for Lolita fashion centers on harmonizing blush and false eyelashes to keep the face pristine and adorable.
Photos 3 and 5 are from shoots in a greenhouse conservatory and a traditional studio, respectively. The white staff prop in the greenhouse set was hand-assembled by myself, gluing every single foliage leaf onto the branch. The pink wig for the traditional set required careful layered trimming, matching fluffy ear ornaments while maintaining poised, elegant posture seated upon classical Chinese furnishings.
Scrambling to assemble these assets right before the cutoff—every single look took immense effort from garment selection and makeup trials to scenic discussions with photographers. If this independent tour application gets approved, I'll be able to bring these stylings to the floor and meet up with everyone. Every trip to a major Guangzhou anime convention brings encounters with fellow enthusiasts, uniting over a shared passion to exchange photoshoot tips and prop-crafting wisdom—it's an incredible feeling. My luggage is practically packed now; looking forward to running into everyone on-site and creating more satisfying photos together!
