Holding this exaggerated crescent staff while standing between the black-and-white checkered floor and vintage gold-framed arches, the line that immediately popped into my head was, "I'm really not good at fighting... can I apply to slack off?" The starting point of this photoshoot was to recreate Denia's in-game authenticity—clever, witty, and unapologetically trying to dodge combat.
In terms of costume preparation, the details of this styling truly tested the tailor's craftsmanship. The top features a layered white design with black trim, while the blue gemstone choker across the chest paired with golden chains and the white faux-fur cuffs around the arms nicely balances magical-girl sweetness with a touch of opulence. I especially adore the sheer light-pink tulle sleeves layered outside; as I walk, the tulle flutters with the breeze, adding an airy lightness to the entire frame even with slight movements. The red gloves are also a finishing touch, acting as the most striking pop of color in the photos to brighten up the dominant cool-white and black-and-red palette.
On the day of the shoot, we tried two completely different sets to complete these photos. The scene in the first set is a highly theatrical stage; the wrought-iron patterned arched windows in the background, paired with red velvet drapes on both sides, inherently evoke an atmosphere where stage drama and fairy tales intertwine. Combined with post-processed translucent bubble effects and the long light cyan-blue ribbon tied to the staff, the entire composition is filled with a dreamy, spirited dynamism. What satisfied me most in the final shots was the exact moment the ribbon fluttered in the air, which, paired with a slightly raised-chin posture, precisely captured that "harmless yet opinionated" personality.
The set for the second series leaned more toward the ambiance of a vintage private mansion, where the intricately carved reddish-brown leather sofa served as a magnificent prop. I reclined halfway on the sofa with hands resting naturally against the cushions, shot from a tilted low-angle perspective. Although the skirt of this costume is very voluminous, reclining on the sofa naturally revealed the black strappy platform shoes, whose buckle lines formed a striking visual contrast with the fluffy white skirt. Furthermore, this lazy, unguarded sitting posture perfectly resonated with the "slacking-off application" state, eliminating the need to maintain stiff standing poses and allowing my gaze to look far more casual and relaxed while leaning against the sofa.
During the shoot, special attention had to be paid to the spatial arrangement between props and the subject. Because the staff itself is quite long, standing too close to the lens or at an improper angle could easily crop out the top of the staff or obscure my face. Therefore, the photographer opted for medium-to-long shots to capture both full body and props, using wide-angle or slightly pulled-back framing to ensure the golden frames, checkered floor, and red velvet curtains behind us were included, creating a rich, opulent, yet uncluttered layered depth.
In truth, when shooting a character, the most vital aspect is often capturing the character's primary intuitive essence. In my understanding, Denia is a fascinating individual who looks exceedingly delicate and gorgeous on the outside, yet secretly yearns to slack off. Therefore, across both shooting scenes, I deliberately tuned down the range of expressions, avoiding overly passionate or radiant smiles in favor of subtle playfulness, with just a hint of smugness and ease in the eyes. Paired with high-saturation props and costumes, even though I'm not adept at high-intensity combat choreography, interpreting this "delicate vulnerability" and "slacking-off demeanor" through Roleplay and Anime-style photography brought a more multifaceted, 3D presentation to another facet of the character in this cosplay work.
