[Asaba Harumasa cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Lazy Tactical Style Outfit on the Streets

Skipping work on a Monday for a date with the Proxy, cosplaying my favorite male character this year, Asaba Harumasa. Having done mostly cute girl cosplays before, I was worried that pulling off a cool, slightly aloof, and lazy male character might feel awkward. But after retouching, the result looks pretty good—at least the style didn't stray off track.

When preparing the costume, the wig and yellow headband were the soul of the look. Not only did the bangs need a messy, natural, layered texture, but the position of the headband required multiple adjustments. To soften my naturally delicate facial contours, I deliberately lowered the brow arches and elongated the eyeliner during makeup, steering the slightly somber temperament toward a clean, sharp look. The black choker and cross pendant around the neck were also key accessories to enhance that cool and dashing presence, maxing out the details.

The inner white shirt is actually a basic piece, but to convey the character's relaxed vibe, the collar needed to be opened just right, with the sleeves casually rolled up. The main highlight is the intricate tactical gear over it—layered black leather straps, a rigid chest plate, and the mechanical device fitted on the left arm. The mechanical arm is primarily black with vibrant yellow accents, and the turquoise component on top is instantly recognizable. Once assembled, the aura immediately locked in. The tactical belt features two small black pouches and peacock-blue fabric drapes that flow with every step. Even though the props carried noticeable weight, achieving high fidelity made it totally worthwhile.

Finding the shooting location took some thought as well. Instead of a pure studio, we chose an elevated urban walkway and outdoor areas with yellow-and-black hazard lines and louvered walls. This industrial, urban setting fits the character's persona flawlessly. In the second photo, sitting beside the elevated guardrail with the high-rise skyline and staggered buildings in the background, paired with the soft, diffused overcast light, perfectly highlighted the contrast between matte and glossy textures on the tactical style outfit. The photographer's posing guidance was also crucial: constantly reigning in feminine posture habits, opening up the shoulders slightly, keeping a lazy yet vigilant gaze, and resting a hand on the gear or behind the head to make it genuinely look like casual wandering on the street.

Cosplaying a male character is a step outside the comfort zone in every aspect—from makeup and posture to shooting concepts. This look made me realize that as long as the details are precise, even a sweeter face can project an entirely different aura with the right camera sense. Walking around the location in this outfit and receiving curious glances from passersby was actually quite fun. Although outdoor anime-style photography can be tiring, seeing the final photos faithfully replicate the casual cosplay atmosphere in my head made every bit of effort worth it.
