[Mizuki cosplay] Arknights: Texture and Details in Low-Light Convention Photos

The core challenge of this Mizuki convention photos shoot at CPSP was dealing with the cluttered background. Because the convention hall's lighting was relatively harsh, we found a dim corner and utilized distant highlight spots to create bokeh. The trickiest part of the costume was the translucent plastic cape; direct lighting caused it to wash out into white glare, but switching to side-backlighting allowed the cape's edges to reveal a subtle blue gradient, instantly bringing out its texture.

Because this styling emphasizes clean lines, I repeatedly adjusted leg poses and clothing folds during the shoot. Particularly with the seated pose in Photo 2 featuring the leg ring and black stockings, the photographer carefully found the right angles so the silhouettes were sharply outlined against the dark background. I deliberately thinned out the wig, which, paired with red contacts, made my facial features look more defined. The coat's holographic laser belt looked fantastic under this lighting—a streak of color across a black base palette that lengthened the overall visual proportions.

The costume easily got disarranged with movement, so we frequently paused to straighten out the cape and ensure the blue and yellow color blocks looked clean in the frame. Post-processing mainly involved darkening the background and softening the specular highlights, making this predominantly black, blue, and white outfit appear sharper and cleaner. I also experimented with different expressions, such as a more relaxed gaze paired with subtle movements, creating a coexistence of fragility and latent aggression.

Every convention feels like opening a mystery box; the environment is genuinely hard to control, so extra effort had to be invested in prep work. To nail this Mizuki shoot, I did trial makeup at home multiple times, fine-tuning the eyeliner angles to ensure the contacts blended naturally. The transparent plastic material on the coat is notoriously prone to creasing, so I kept it on a hanger and steamed it again before shooting. I positioned the leg ring as high as possible so that, combined with the black stockings, my legs looked longer. Many fellow fans came over for photos during the convention, noting the impressive texture up close. The photographer's dynamic snapshot timing was impeccable, especially on the shot with the swinging cape—the motion was quite wide, taking multiple attempts to achieve a perfect result. In such a crowded convention venue, it's rare to get backgrounds blurred so cleanly while highlighting the subject and bringing out the costume's subtle sheen and details.

The color grading centered on cool tones, crushing the surrounding environment to emphasize the character's cool and ethereal presence. Finally, huge thanks to the photographer who put up with all the hassle alongside me; though exhausting after a long day, seeing this photo set made it completely worth it.
