This stage styling for Phanuel cosplay truly demanded immense dedication. From the delicate hair accessories atop my head to the massive angel wings on my back, and down to the cascading tiers of lace skirts, every detail tested my endurance while wearing it. Although the wings carried substantial weight, the moment I stepped onto the stage—surrounded by purple spotlights and dry-ice fog—the dreamlike ambiance of an anime idol instantly peaked. Choosing to perform on a black-and-white checkered stage created an extraordinarily striking visual contrast.
While dancing on stage, the weight of the outfit completely faded from mind. My thoughts were consumed by how to make every movement more fluid and expansive, and how to lock onto the photographers' lenses. The magical wand in hand and the colorful ribbons draped around my body served as fantastic props for interaction. As the ribbons traced sweeping arcs through the air alongside leaps and spins, I became utterly immersed in the rhythm. To present the absolute best look under the blinding stage lights, I reinforced my makeup backstage, knowing how easily intense lighting washes out features. The white platform heels were also thoroughly broken in beforehand to ensure rock-solid stability during single-leg balances and dynamic steps, complementing the Stockings.
The character of Phanuel possesses an exceptionally pure vitality and radiance. To align with this Angel idol persona, I invested heavily in facial expression management, sustaining an energetic smile and keeping my gaze bright and expressive so the character's emotion shone through in tight close-ups. Although it was an all-white ensemble, the powerful stage lights illuminated the delicate lace textures and tiered fabric layers with crisp clarity, while the colorful ribbons kept the look from ever feeling monochromatic.
Performing live is an entirely different world compared to a quiet studio shoot. The intensity of stage lights, the density of fog, and the electric energy of the audience elevate you into a state of heightened exhilaration. On stage, I had to manage my breathing to maintain fluidity, all while staying aware of my wig and wings to avoid any mishaps during fast turns. Every jump and every frozen pose was an effort to fully deliver the character's charm to the crowd within that fleeting performance window.
The skirt design was quite intricate; to achieve proper voluminous fluffiness on stage, ample structural support was built underneath. Throughout the performance, I continually calibrated my movements to account for the skirt's inertia. The colorful ribbons occasionally tangled around my arms, which felt like a sweet burden. Bringing this complete performance to life in such an elaborate outfit was a profoundly thrilling experience. The interplay of stage lighting, props, and wholehearted commitment came together to forge an unforgettable show on the Convention stage.
