In this Wakaba Mutsumi cosplay shoot, the key focus was on using body language to recreate the character's unique sense of detachment and fragility. To achieve a satisfying result, we embraced minimalism in both styling and set design.

First, let's talk about the costume, which everyone cares about most. This uniform embraces a restrained and understated style overall. The top features a white long-sleeved shirt with ruffled details paired with a navy pinafore dress, layered underneath an apron-style white half-skirt adorned with generous ruffles. To add everyday realism and narrative depth, I intentionally wore a vintage distressed brown crossbody bag. The leg lines were showcased through black knee-high Stockings and glossy black leather shoes—a pairing that visually aligns perfectly with a 2D academy aesthetic while elongating lower body proportions. The mint green wig looked exceptionally translucent under natural light; I kept wispy layers and clipped a simple white bobby pin on one side to capture an effortless, daily feel.

The Studio shoot set was minimalist, consisting solely of a plain gray-and-white backdrop with no superfluous furnishings. This cool ambient light cast upon the subject effectively fostered a quiet sense of oppression. While shooting the solo set seated on a white barstool, I held a bouquet of blooming white lilies in my arms. To match the chilly, muted environment, I deliberately restrained my facial expressions—no smiles, keeping my gaze distant and hollow. The photographer guided me to lean back slightly with legs crossed, which not only flattered the leg lines naturally, but also projected that isolated demeanor of refusing communication.

The second half of the shoot shifted toward more abstract emotional expression. We experimented with varied physical poses to portray internal conflict—such as curling up on the floor hugging my knees, or lying prostrate on the ground. The most physically demanding setup was the suspended marionette composition featuring thin threads; with white threads connected to the head and shoulders, the entire body had to be held rigid to mimic a puppet on strings, where any relaxation would ruin the pose. In the two-person interactive scene, one sat on a stool with head bowed in utter passivity while the other stood behind making oppressive gestures. Strong lights dried my eyes as I fought to keep my gaze focused, yet only this purely unadulterated stare could convey that raw, shattered emotion into the lens. Muscle soreness was inevitable after the shoot, but seeing the story-rich frames in the final results made all the fatigue worthwhile for this Arknights set.
