When first conceptualizing this Kaenbyou Rin look, I decided to move away from conventional, simpler outfits and try this visually striking Gothic Lolita style instead. The interwoven palette of red, black, and green aligns perfectly with the character's complex nature combining the underworld, blazing fire, and kasha demon cat traits. For the wig, I selected a highly saturated true red, trimmed it into blunt heavy bangs, and set it firmly with plenty of hairspray. The twin braids on both sides don't just hang loosely; they were woven tight and firm, finished with black satin ribbon bows at the ends, which—together with the oversized fluffy cat ears on top and the black rose hairpieces on either side—gives the head a very full, defined silhouette. For makeup, red colored contacts were worn to match the canon setting, while eyeshadow and lipstick leaned into dark berry-red tones. To add a hint of refined roguish flair, I paired it with slim-framed round glasses, which worked surprisingly well to balance out the dark aesthetic with a touch of playfulness.

The garment's details were both the greatest challenge and the biggest highlight of this shoot. The dress features intricate layering: the upper body is a corset bustier spliced with black lace, with red crisscross lacing at the waist that not only cinches the waistline visually but also adds a Gothic mechanical edge. The neckline is an off-the-shoulder ruffle accented with dark red and forest green lace, while the red gem pendant around my neck pops vividly against the black fabric. The most time-consuming part was the skirt—multiple tiers of crinoline and organza create enormous volume, interwoven with teal iridescent tulle that catches the light in shifting hues. Several miniature white skull figurines are scattered across the skirt layers, and I held a life-sized skull prop in my hands, vastly enhancing the storytelling depth of the ensemble. Of course, there's also the long black cat tail at the back; to allow it to pose flexibly during the shoot, it was threaded with bendable craft wire, requiring careful control with every turn and leg lift to keep it looking plush yet spirited.

For the legs, I wore black lace-up Stockings with crisscrossing straps running all the way down to the ankles, paired with platform shoes adorned with red roses and miniature skulls. The convention was packed that day and the venue was stifling, so moving through the crowds in such heavy, layered garments was definitely an endurance test. However, once standing in front of the lens to showcase all this elaborate craftsmanship, every second felt worth it. In terms of posing, I tried to stay as expressive and open as possible—lifting one leg while balancing the skull in hand captured the flare of the voluminous skirt and the clean lines of the legs. Because the skirt is so poofy, wide movements can easily expose the underskirt, so I constantly minded my posture to keep the pose both graceful and secure.

This Gothic look was ultimately a stylized experiment built upon retaining the character's core identity. The red twin braids and cat ears are the soul, while the lavish elegance of Lolita fashion amplifies her aura of mystery and flamboyance as a hellish kasha. Although the attire is elaborate, as long as you capture the character's essential traits and execute the hair and makeup details meticulously, even an entirely different fashion genre can evoke that character's signature presence. Even though the shoot was demanding, translating my own interpretation of the character and costume through the lens was an immensely satisfying experience in itself.
