[Feixiao cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Convention Photos with Battle-Ready Realism

The moment the spotlight at the convention hit me, I adjusted the center of gravity of the polearm weapon in my hand, striving to recreate the General's composure and sharpness on the battlefield. For these Convention photos, I mainly wanted to challenge a more battle-ready, dynamic state rather than mere static posing. Coupled with the venue's high dome ceiling and overhead lighting, the overall image delivered a cold, austere atmosphere, which was the core visual tone I wanted to convey through the photos. Before shooting, I spent a long time communicating with the photographer about location and angles, aiming to avoid cluttered backgrounds in the hall while utilizing live highlights to emphasize metal fasteners and fabric sheen.

Outfit-wise, this blue-and-white combat suit adorned with black and gold accents was a true test of tailoring craft. Particularly, the off-the-shoulder design on the upper body required a snug fit around the shoulders without looking baggy, while allowing enough freedom of movement to swing the polearm comfortably. The high skirt slit was a visual highlight, revealing leg lines in motion without risking exposure, so inner safety shorts were reinforced. The white leather belt around the waist, studded with rivets and metal buckles, added weight and a tough style, while the red tassel pendant served as an accent in the cool color scheme, keeping the overall styling from looking overly cold.

The combination of wig and animal ears was the soul of this whole look. To highlight her animal traits and sharp demeanor, the white hair, animal ears were specially designed with gradient teal-blue tips, echoing the highlights at the wig's ends and giving layered depth to head colors. The golden motif on her forehead was the core visual symbol of the makeup; to draw it precisely and three-dimensionally, touch-ups were done multiple times on set. The wig was styled into a crisp high ponytail while creating fluffiness at the crown to prevent a flat look once the huge ears were attached. Wind effect was also crucial; an assistant secretly used a fan to create subtle airflow, giving hair strands a flowing dynamic for greater realism.

This polearm weapon carried immense weight in this shoot, both physically and visually. The blue and gold palette, combined with complex, aggressive designs at both ends, presented strong imposing pressure in hand. To convey metallic texture in photos, we rendered the weapon surface as detailed as possible. However, the weight was indeed a test—when posing for full-body and medium shots, switching grip positions was necessary to maintain balance. Especially in the photo with the weapon resting across my shoulder, a slight shift in gravity would make the movement look awkward, truly testing arm and wrist strength.

The convention hall had huge crowds, but fortunately, seamless teamwork with the photographer helped us find a few quiet corners. Overhead track lights formed rim light, outlining costume lines and hair edges cleanly. The photographer had a keen eye for location, capturing great candid moments while allowing me to keep my gaze focused and sharp even when flexing muscles for poses. Wearing heavy gear while navigating a convention is tiring—sweating through the back is routine—but to restore the character's spirit from her lore, every effort was worth it. Post-processing refrained from excessive blurring or reshaping, only fine-tuning color and contrast to preserve the studio-like feel on site.

The biggest challenge in this Feixiao cosplay was how to externalize her heroism and confidence through the lens. Because the costume itself carries the aura of a battle-tested General, a slouching posture or unfocused gaze would easily break immersion, turning me into a "regular visitor in fancy costume." Thus, during shooting, I strove to immerse myself in her battlefield state—with every step, turn, or subtle wave of the weapon, mentally reinforcing her aura. Although makeup was wearing off from morning till the end of the shoot, seeing the final photos made every bit of exhaustion feel rewarding.

I also want to mention the light positions at the venue, which greatly impacted output quality. Finding accurate highlights made skin tone and fabric texture look translucent, while shadow areas preserved fold details, creating far more 3D depth than backlit or flat light. In the medium close-up shot with the weapon across my shoulders, upper body muscle lines and bone contours were cleanly defined without visual clutter. This design indeed sets high demands on posture, while balancing weapon and belt drape behind.

Every set of convention photos has its unique charm; this experience granted me not only visual presentation but a deep emulation of character aura. From smoothing the wig strands to detailed makeup drawing and storyboard communication, immense effort was spent throughout. Despite small incidents on set, like the weapon nearly bumping a nearby booth, the final result delivered as expected.
