The convention officially wrapped up today. Returning to where I'm staying, taking off the makeup, and showering, I finally have a moment to sort through today's Convention photos of Rita from Honkai Impact 3rd. Portraying Rita this time demanded considerable effort across my gear. To recreate that razor-sharp yet poised grace from the original artwork, the prop bow was built to an impressively large scale. To ensure carrying it around the convention floor all day wouldn't be overly grueling, multiple weight-reduction tests were conducted on the internal framework. In terms of painting, multi-layered color separation was applied across the black and gold edges to achieve an authentic metallic luster and prevent it from appearing flat under intense studio lights. The garment features form-fitting tailoring, and the mounting points of the metallic accessories were calibrated repeatedly to ensure zero slippage during dynamic posing. Styling the wig took substantial time as well; the sweep of the bangs and the layered sidelocks beautifully flattered my facial contours before the camera.
Capturing the demeanor of this Game character was the primary focal point of this set. Rita's poise carries an innate hint of aloof distance, so during the shoot, I continuously adjusted where my gaze fell, leaning into slightly lowered eyelids and subtle tilts of the head to seize that tranquil presence. To harmonize with the armor elements of this outfit, my movements not only needed to convey grounded power, but also balance the counterweight of the massive bow to maintain steady equilibrium. When holding the bow in profile, the points of tension across the shoulder armor and waist required precise control, or the posture would easily look off-balance in the frame. For makeup, the eyes received particular emphasis: pinkish-red contact lenses paired with blended eyeshadow wings added vibrant visual contrast against the cool-toned environment.
The studio lighting today was fantastic—the purple-blue background and fresh lilies complemented the overarching color palette gorgeously. Under the key lights, the blue gemstones set into the prop radiated crisp, translucent brilliance. I crossed paths with many fellow fans at the convention, exchanging extensive insights into Prop making and makeup techniques. Although navigating the venue and posing in this heavy gear burned through considerable stamina—especially holding and readjusting postures repeatedly to catch the ideal angle—reviewing the stunning outcomes made every bit of effort worthwhile. Every location shoot or convention appearance truly feels like a fresh artistic reinterpretation of the character.
From sourcing raw materials early on to polishing fine details later, the journey was tedious yet deeply fulfilling as the character stepped from two dimensions into tangible life. Next up is taking a few days of rest to clean and maintain the wig and gear, touching up paint where needed and repairing loose accessories. As for future plans, it depends on my schedule—if time permits, I might refine this costume's nuances further or resurrect previous creative projects that were put on pause.
