[Herta cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: The Staff in Hand and the Storm Beneath the Brim

Wearing this Madam Herta gear on-site at the iJOY Anime Convention, from makeup to wig to putting on the entire setup, took almost half the morning. Honestly speaking, this purple-toned magician attire has always been highly recognizable at anime conventions. Just putting that huge wide-brimmed hat on my head immediately narrowed my field of vision by half, requiring extra attention to surrounding display racks while walking.

The materials prepared this time had specific considerations for the patterns on the skirt hem and cuffs. The geometric rune patterns in dark purple-blue and silver-white showed a crisp texture under the studio overhead lights. The off-the-shoulder corset upper body featured leather-textured straps, and the color contrast of black and purple gave the entire upper body silhouette a very solid look in the frame. Ample white ruffles on the inside of the sleeves and skirt hem created a great layer transition with the main purple color. While walking, these fabrics swayed gently with my movements; though increasing movement resistance, it genuinely created a flowing atmosphere fitting for a fantasy spellcaster.

The staff in hand was the core prop for great shots. Its metal paint finish in purple, white, and gold gave it a substantial look. The staff head adopted a 3D geometric cube structure, and holding it on-site made me feel its center of gravity concentrated in the upper-middle section. To capture pleasing angles during the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust the tilt angle of the staff, avoiding obscuring the pattern details on my chest while keeping it from blocking light hitting my face. Fortunately, the photographer on site understood the pain points of such costumes very well, constantly tweaking light angles using a mix of side-backlighting and direct top light to make reflections on the boots and dark patterns on the skirt hem clearly layered in these Cosplay convention photos.

Regarding styling, the light purple long straight wig was trimmed at the tips beforehand to rest right on my shoulders. Straight bangs paired with a few stray locks at the sideburns framed my face shape nicely while creating a visual connection with the brim of the wide hat. For eye makeup, red-brown contact lenses were chosen, presenting a subtle sense of depth under bright hall lights. Meanwhile, the splicing details of the Black tights outfit with knee-high boots added a touch of fashion to this fantasy-style attire. The thick-soled tall boots with black cross-lacing provided a steady footing when walking, and metallic buckle details on the side added great bonus points in close-up shots.

While walking around the hall, this eye-catching outfit with the large purple hat drew many fellow fans to stop by, with a very high frequency of requests for Convention photos. However, because the area of the skirt hem and sleeve pieces was relatively large, I needed to restrain my steps slightly when passing through crowded aisles to prevent the wide ruffled cuffs from scraping against nearby camera equipment cases. The venue space at iJOY Anime Convention was relatively open, and the scattered pillars and lighting equipment in the background served as natural composition elements packed with live presence.

Overall, wearing such a gorgeous outfit was indeed much more exhausting than everyday street fashion—the wig was stuffy and hot, the boots were heavy, and the hat needed steadying at any moment—but when the raw photo previews popped up on the camera screen, all the sewing details and prop painting preparations felt completely worthwhile. Rather than chasing flawless 2D flat illustrations, I value even more whether such an outfit can accurately recreate the character's unique composure and aura under flowing light within a real convention environment.
