Bringing Azur Lane's Misaki to life took about half a month from initial concept to the actual shoot. We selected a vintage studio steeped in scholarly ambiance, decorated with sprawling white blossoms, lush green bamboo, and suspended hanging scrolls adorned with brush calligraphy and crimson seals—all carefully arranged to recreate that classical, elegantly detached atmosphere.

The wardrobe was filled with intricate nuances. The centerpiece was a modified sleeveless deep navy qipao featuring traditional frog fasteners at the mandarin collar and gold-foiled dragon motifs stamped across the chest and flanks, whose textures registered with exceptional depth under the studio lenses. To introduce layered visual movement, I added detached wide-flared sleeves in black-and-gray stripes that draped lazily toward the floor. I wore cropped black gloves on my hands and paired the lower silhouette with Black stockings, which anchored the cool, cohesive palette while contouring clean leg lines to exude an alluring, restrained tension.

For props, we prepared a folding paper fan, a wooden handled tea tray with miniature porcelain cups, and scattered calligraphy scrolls. The photographer, Jiang Shujian, was brilliant at discovering compelling angles, continually guiding me to play with the oversized sleeves and folding fan. To embody the guild master's effortless yet imposing dominance, I posed seated cross-legged on a plush velvet-draped bench, or half-kneeling over the low platform while lightly resting the rim of the fan beneath my chin or turning a tea cup in my fingers. I kept my gaze mostly aloof and cool-tempered, occasionally flashing a fleeting, subtle touch of playfulness.

Lighting played an instrumental role throughout the entire session. A soft sidelight angled downward, highlighting stray hair strands and cheek contours while casting rich gradients of depth across the calligraphy backdrops and greenery. To ensure the modern allure of the Black stockings harmonized seamlessly with the vintage set, I made repeated micro-adjustments to the placement and angles of my legs—accentuating bodily lines while upholding the character's unyielding, aristocratic aloofness. The finished deliverables matched our original vision impeccably, each frame striving to do justice to the master's singular charisma.
