[Cheshire Cosplay] Recreating the Charm of Azur Lane: A Makeup Adjustment Diary

After switching to a new makeup style, this shoot focused heavily on adjusting the lighting and angles to highlight the fine details of the look. I opted for a longer-lasting foundation base, with thorough concealer coverage particularly around the wings of the nose and under-eye area. To align with the signature aesthetic of Japanese cosplay makeup, I winged the eyeliner upward and accentuated the eyes, selecting colored contact lenses that match the character's vibrant blue-green tone. The blush was applied relatively high on the cheekbones to impart a healthy glow on camera, which, paired with matte lips, gave the entire makeup look a noticeably cleaner and more exquisite finish than before.

As for the attire, the combination of crisp white and deep navy was remarkably photogenic. The white ruffled headdress required careful styling and hold to maintain its airy fullness. The laced bodice design on the chest was quite snug; to properly replicate the character's curves, I spent considerable time fine-tuning the length and placement of the laces so they wouldn't restrict breathing while ensuring the folds draped naturally. The cuffs featured delicate lace frills and subtle jacquard patterns that needed careful protection from getting creased during posing. Under the studio lights, the golden buttons and accessories added a textured shine that significantly boosted the sense of elegance.

The wig featured a blue-black gradient; after washing, the ends were lightly curled, and the bangs were trimmed precisely to avoid obstructing the eyes. I ensured the hairline blended naturally, anchoring it securely with a wig cap so it stayed firmly in place even when turning my head quickly. During the session, the photographer guided me through specific angles—such as tilting my head slightly while resting an index finger against my cheek, or extending my arm lines to lengthen the composition. Since I personally love analyzing styling and makeup, I paid special attention to the layering of the headpiece and the drape of fabric folds.

To capture a more intimate and accurate visual impression, the atmosphere of this shoot was kept relatively quiet without distracting, exaggerated movements. Putting on the complete gear and arranging everything took about an hour. Unlike my previous, more understated makeup, this time I dialed up the color saturation slightly—introducing soft violet-pink undertones into the eye makeup to enhance facial dimension. The crisscrossed white cords against the deep navy lapels created a sharp contrast, serving as a primary visual focal point. Managing this vintage, slightly opulent Maid outfit alongside detailed Japanese cosplay makeup felt like another big step forward in capturing the character's true aura, and the final results were a delightful surprise.
