[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive Academy Routine: Quiet Moments by the School Desk

Today, I finally wrapped up the photoshoot for this Misaki cosplay set. Within the world of Blue Archive, Misaki's academy presence—blending aloof composure with a lingering air of enigma—has always drawn me in. I spent a long time prepping in advance for this session. For the wig, I selected a deep, muted navy blue with grayish undertones, cut blunt bangs across the forehead, and left elongated sidelocks. The most tedious part was styling the twin symmetrical buns on top along with the black butterfly side pieces; to keep them from drooping during the shoot, I sprayed on quite a bit of hairspray. The large geometric headpiece on the back of the head was actually crafted from EVA foam and acrylic, and wearing it for hours definitely left my neck feeling a little stiff. Makeup-wise, to capture that anime aesthetic, I deliberately put in light-colored contact lenses while intensifying the shadow and lashes to accentuate the eye contours. Cosplay makeup can't afford to look too casual: aside from keeping the base completely clean, high-intensity highlights on the inner corners and careful blending along the lower lash line are crucial for making the eyes appear wider and deeper. Before putting the wig on, I also went over it with a flat iron to give the sidelocks a subtle inward curve that flatters the jawline.

For the outfit, I opted for the most iconic school uniform pairing: a short-sleeved white collared shirt paired with a blue-and-white striped tie, dark blue pleated skirt, White stockings (knee-high), and glossy black leather shoes. Inside the studio, we recreated a classroom scene, using wooden student desks and chairs as our primary props. In the first half-body close-up, I held the blue smartphone partially shielding my lower face to convey the feeling of an unscripted, candid capture. In the second full-length shot, sitting on top of the desk with legs crossed and suspended in mid-air, the goal was to show off a relaxed posture that still carried guarded aloofness. For studio backdrops, we chose the cleanest off-white tone to keep the focus purely on the character. Early in the shoot, holding the phone felt somewhat stiff, but the photographer told me to unwind and imagine messaging a close friend, which naturally coaxed out the authentic expression in Photo 1. Sitting atop the desk with crossed legs in Photo 2 actually tested core stability quite a bit—it takes conscious effort to maintain upright posture while looking completely effortless.

Throughout the shoot, I kept reminding myself to hold a poised, cool expression. A character like Misaki doesn't call for exaggerated dramatics; instead, tiny shifts in eye contact and subtle body language carry the weight—such as the way the fingers hold the phone, or the slight tension in the hand bracing against the tabletop. White stockings paired with a pleated skirt visually elongate the legs, serving as a timeless classic combination in Campus style cosplay. Though the studio lights ran rather warm, I was very happy with the resulting photos, particularly the crisp, translucent sheen of the White stockings and leather shoes under direct lighting. At first, finding the right headspace was slightly tricky because Misaki doesn't have many active canon references in this specific uniform set. I tried picturing myself as an ordinary academy student idling at her desk between classes, daydreaming or glancing over notifications. The blue phone in hand was actually an impromptu prop grabbed on the spot to echo the overarching blue-and-white palette, and it unexpectedly tied the frame together. During breaks, I constantly checked the wig's silhouette to ensure the bangs wouldn't obscure the eyes, keeping the expression sharp. Combining White stockings and a pleated skirt carries a naturally youthful uniform charm, though one must remain vigilant against wardrobe slips by avoiding overly large gestures—a standard safety consideration in cosplay shoots. To maintain a crisp drape, the pleated skirt had been freshly steam-ironed beforehand. From dialing in the lighting to finalizing the raw images, the entire prep and shoot cycle took a full week. Looking at the captured moments on the camera monitor, every ounce of fatigue was completely worth it.
