The pre-production for this Phrolova cosplay photoshoot in her Final Chapter of the Waltz design from Wuthering Waves took longer than anticipated. From wig styling to costume tailoring adjustments, nearly every single detail went through multiple rounds of verification. The mint-green, shoulder-length bob needed to retain ample volume to support the textured layers of the bangs and ends. To recreate the character's enigmatic and subtly perilous aura, the makeup emphasized sharply contoured eye features; reddish-brown eyeshadow combined with deep lip shades and her iconic black eyepatch instantly transformed the entire presence.

The attire embodies classic black-and-red color blocking. A crimson corset bodice paired with black outerwear—while the tightly laced corset was quite restrictive around the waist, it sculpted a strikingly gorgeous waistline on camera. The skirt features abundant cascading layers; in motion or while posing, the overlapping red and black fabrics created intense visual drama. Later in the shoot, switching into White stockings paired with black ankle boots added another dynamic. Standing on the stone steps beneath the lengthy train required constant care to avoid stepping on the hem while keeping balanced, which was genuinely a test of poise.

The shoot took place in a church-style studio set featuring stained glass windows. Red roses were arranged generously throughout the space, spilling from the floor across to the pillars, richly infusing the scene with deep coloration. During shooting, lighting was both the most challenging and most rewarding element. To accentuate character and fabric textures, we made heavy use of side rim-lighting. For instance, in the half-body shot, light streaming from behind sculpted the collarbones and skin texture while crushing the shadows beneath the rose petals; this stark contrast between light and dark greatly intensified the Gothic style mood.

Regarding props, the massive greatsword wrapped in red roses and black vines carried substantial weight; holding it with one hand while holding a pose made my forearm thoroughly sore. Occasionally, locking down the perfect angle meant maintaining a stance for minutes on end. In the shots where I leaned the sword against the floor while looking into the lens, minor angle adjustments were needed to prevent blinding glares off the blade. Other shots leveraged an outstretched arm or foreground roses for soft bokeh, establishing spatial depth and dreamlike immersion. In Photo 5, I deliberately reached my arm forward toward the camera to create the illusion of breaking the fourth wall and fostering intimacy.

To be candid, shooting this look was physically exhausting. The layered, hefty costume became warm under the studio lamps, and stepping through the set in boots demanded meticulous caution. Yet every time I glanced at the camera preview and saw those dark aesthetic visuals, every ounce of exertion felt justified. Bringing my own interpretation of this character to life in such a manner remains an immensely gratifying journey.
