I just received the retouched photos for this set. This shoot features Emilia cosplay from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. We did a lot of preparation before the shoot, communicating extensively with the stylist about the costume details alone. This white and purple dress has strong layering, with the green gemstone pendant at the neckline and purple piping serving as the crowning touches. Wearing it required extra care because the skirt is made of soft chiffon and mesh netting, requiring each pleat to be smoothed out carefully to maintain that airy, floating feel. I also communicated in advance with the photographer regarding posing guidance. Since the skirt is relatively short and fluffy, full-body shots can easily lose the waistline, so when adjusting the seated posture, special attention was paid to extending the ankles, using the texture of the White stockings to enhance graceful softness.
To match the character's temperament, I specifically styled long silver-white hair and Elf ears props. The Elf ears are made of very soft silicone, glued to the ears with specialized adhesive. Although wearing them all day was a bit stuffy and made the ear tips slightly red, it was completely worth it to faithfully recreate that otherworldly, ethereal aura unique to non-humans. For makeup, we aimed for a translucent, flawless look: the foundation was applied very lightly, emphasizing sheer pink-purple eyeshadow and subtle blush, with a natural pale pink lip to preserve that pure essence.
The set featured many large artificial flowers, deliberately chosen in soft pink and white tones, with petals scattered on the floor to evoke a sea of blossoms. Paired with two tilted vintage gold picture frames, along with classical Roman pillars and sheer tulle faintly visible in the background, the aim was to create a dreamy sense of stepping into a painted world. The photographer also put great thought into composition, using the frame's edges as a foreground to envelop the subject within the frame's perspective, enhancing depth and narrative. Because the costume fabric leans toward sheer tulle and lace, lighting was a test; we used extra-large softboxes to cast even, gentle light, highlighting the skirt's layers and the sheen of the White stockings while avoiding harsh blown-out whites.
These two photos each have their own focus. The second half-body close-up captures the refined makeup, focused gaze, and surrounding petals beautifully; with an understated expression and the tilted frame angle, the entire look appears remarkably luminous. However, I personally prefer the full composition of the first shot. It shows not only upper-body costume details but also the overall coordination—especially the sleek lines of the White stockings, which exude great elegance in the seated pose while testing flexibility and body expression by extending or gently bending the legs. Light-colored styling can be tricky to manage, especially with White stockings and sheer skirt mesh; any slightly harsh light risks washing everything out and losing texture. Using soft diffuse lighting rendered the skin tones and fabric textures exquisitely.
My personal takeaway when portraying such characters is not to pursue pretty poses alone, but to convey the character's gentle, steady personality through eye contact and dynamic frame composition, giving the images breath and narrative depth. During shooting, we tried many angles, such as peering at the lens through the frame gaps or resting a hand on the frame's edge. Finding the perfect angle for optimal light and shadow was key. Although the process was intricate—constantly adjusting the skirt and Elf ears to prevent glue detachment amidst numerous props—I'm very satisfied with the final photos, which perfectly recreate that cool yet warm atmosphere.
