This set of Kaai Yuki photos took a lot of thought from preparation to completion. In terms of clothing, the cut of the red suspender skirt is key; to support the pleated silhouette, a slightly thicker fabric style was specially chosen so that it looks more structured when worn. The white shirt is short-sleeved with black edging on the cuffs, which is a very important detail for accurate character restoration. The red-and-white checkered bow at the neckline needs to have the correct shape and a pleasing plaid proportion to avoid looking cheap.
Regarding the wig styling, Kaai Yuki's signature straight bangs and twin tails require attention to layering during trimming. The bangs shouldn't be too heavy, maintaining a bit of an airy feel at the forehead, and the sideburns on both sides should frame the face shape. The two yellow fluffy pom-pom hair accessories on the head not only echo the warm tones of the skirt but also add a bit of playfulness to the overall styling.
The makeup avoided heavy 2D styles, keeping the base makeup clean and translucent, with the focus on the eye makeup. The inner eyeliner was slightly intensified, and natural false eyelashes were applied to make the gaze look more focused, with the outer corners of the eyes drooping slightly to bring out a touch of innocence.
The location shoot was chosen at a vintage amusement park. The large areas of yellow slides and blue ground provided a high-saturation background for the image, creating a strong visual impact with the red skirt. Photographer @猫拒绝了你 is exceptionally skilled at utilizing structural lines in the environment. Photo 1 uses the arc of a yellow dome as a frame, with the subject sitting on the edge of the high spot; the low-angle shot not only avoids the cluttered ground but also gives the frame great tension. Photo 2 utilizes the extending sense of the slide, having the subject stand in the middle of the slide and look back—the red schoolbag and skirt are extremely prominent against the yellow slide chute, while the white knee-high socks and dark red Mary Jane shoes are also fully displayed.
In terms of props, the recorder and the yellow long-handled umbrella added a sense of story to the image. Holding the recorder in hand, whether putting it to the mouth to play or holding it casually, makes hand gestures look more natural without appearing awkward. While shooting Photo 3, sitting on a yellow sphere made the center of gravity a bit difficult to control, but it happened to showcase a casual state. Photo 4 shows sitting at the bottom of the slide, with the yellow umbrella placed aside, the red schoolbag used as a cushion, and hands resting naturally in front, presenting a very relaxed state overall.
Considering the overall style, white half-length socks were paired, which not only elongates the leg lines but also fits the character's design better. The white heart line on the red backpack is also quite exquisite. The natural light of the amusement park shone softly on the face, avoiding harsh shadows. This set of photos mainly aims to present a fairytale-like yet grounded atmosphere, while guiding poses to ensure every shutter press carries a sense of story.
