From finalizing the design sketches to the actual studio shoot, this Musashi Oath dress project took over half a month of dedicated preparation. I had always wanted to challenge an ensemble that blends dark gothic allure with opulent court grandeur, and this shoot finally realized that vision to perfection. The costume features a black halter base spliced with deep purple semi-sheer puff sleeves and flowing blue-purple gradient chiffon trains. To faithfully capture the oath gown's design, intricate cutout lace-ups and golden metallic buckles accent the bust, complemented by a gilded bow adorning the waist.
The wig was styled with long, sleek tresses featuring violet highlights. Resting atop the crown, the plush Animal ears in tri-tone black, purple, and white serve as the soul of the look; paired with the long black tail behind me, they not only inject beast-girl liveliness, but also balance the visual weight of the heavy gown. For makeup, magenta-violet blending was intensified around the eyes, paired with double rows of pearl hairpins on the right side to lend the gaze an incisive, enigmatic edge.
The set was staged in an interior adorned with Roman pillars and cascading fresh blooms. We were exceptionally fortunate to catch immaculate side-rim backlighting. Sitting on the wooden floorboards before sheer white curtains, daylight filtered through to illuminate the blue-purple hems and black Stockings, producing an exquisite translucent radiance that is rare to capture. To embody Musashi's commanding presence, I integrated deliberate hand gestures—extending both hands forward, resting my chin on one hand, or gently brushing the bodice fabric—projecting an aura of detached sovereignty and absolute composure.
The lower half was styled with black garter straps, sheer black Stockings, and black high-heeled Mary Janes, which elongated leg lines and enriched visual depth through seated postures. Under the backlight, the black Stockings revealed a subtle sheer skin texture that echoed the deep purple gown harmoniously.
This solo set is merely the prelude; group photoshoots planned with other cosplayers are currently undergoing intense editing and typesetting. On set, everyone supported one another by smoothing garments and tossing trains, making the session run remarkably smoothly. The costume is rich in fine nuances—crafted from jacquard velvet and glossy satin, it carried noticeable physical weight.
Maintaining seated stances for extended takes heavily tested core stability, particularly while wearing heels and a fitted gown where every subtle shift required rearranging the train and chiffon drapes. Often, pinning down an exact backlit lens flare required micro-adjusting my facial angles continuously. The Animal ears were fabricated with rich fur textures to remain sharply defined on camera, requiring multiple head turns to find the ideal silhouette. From refining wig curvature to controlling the drape of the fabric, every single frame was born from persistent trial and error. Our scenic styling placed white blossoms in the foreground and floral baskets in the distance to build immersive depth of field, and I truly hope this collection fully conveys the tactile magnificence of this oath gown.
