In the middle of the night, I saw international students on WeChat Moments posting sneak peeks from Genshin Impact FES back home, which instantly woke me up. Unable to sleep, I got right out of bed and passionately retouched this previously shot photo set. This look is based on Columbina (Damselette) from Genshin Impact. Being in North America and unable to make the trip back, I could only satisfy my longing through these photos.
The wind on the day of the shoot was genuinely fierce, with the beach being cold and dark, set against the backdrop of a massive full moon. On site, the surroundings were pitch black, requiring a powerful strobe to overpower the ambient darkness so that both my face and the moon could be captured crisply together. Although I was shivering from the cold, I gave my best to channel the character's signature enigmatic aura for this Moonlight photography Cosplay photoshoot.
A great deal of care went into the outfit details. First was the custom white hollowed-out mask; to match the character design, the shape and size of the cutouts were adjusted multiple times. The white feathered wing headpieces were meticulously cut, sculpted from EVA foam according to character design sheets, and spray-painted. Paired with the long pink strands in the wig, along with the red-and-black patchwork fabric and white ribbons all over, especially the large white bow on the chest, keeping the structured shape was quite demanding—requiring snap buttons throughout to prevent it from flipping over in the wind.
To complement the backdrop, I deliberately stood on the sand with the deep blue night sky behind me; as the white ribbons along my arms and hair fluttered in the breeze, they created an ethereal flying sensation. In post-processing, I built multiple layers of light and shadow, preserving the moon's crisp textures while making the portrait bright and translucent to accentuate the classic red-and-black palette. Because I edited these myself, I'm still refining minor details, such as blending the mask edges and capturing the perfect fluttering curve of the ribbons.
Honestly, it has been a long time since I last returned home to attend an anime convention. I heard the atmosphere at this year's Genshin Impact FES was amazing, and seeing everyone's group photos made me genuinely envious. Sharing this photo set serves as a bit of self-comfort. Hopefully next time there's a similar event, I can be there in the venue in person to experience all the excitement and passion firsthand.
