The retouched selects for this Sandrone photoshoot are finally finished, and today I'd love to share some behind-the-scenes insights from the process. When thinking of Sandrone in Genshin Impact, the first impression for most is likely that icy, languid, and deeply enigmatic Puppet. To authentically capture that signature presence, we poured tremendous effort into location scouting, ultimately securing a real-world studio complete with a vintage grand piano, a deep-violet velvet sofa, and crystal candelabras.
Let's start with the wardrobe. This costume boasts exceptional fidelity to lore, but putting it on was genuinely time-consuming and labor-intensive. The triad of black, white, and crimson, enriched with lavish golden piping, diamond cutouts, and cascading layers of skirt draping, carries immense visual weight. The black lace choker around the neck and the ruby pendant at the chest serve as crowning focal points. To complement such heavily detailed couture, I deliberately opted for long wavy ash-brown hair styled with blunt bangs. For makeup, the centerpiece was ocular expression: once the vivid sky-blue contact lenses were paired with a porcelain-fair base and dewy lip gloss, that uncanny, doll-like non-human detachment and ornate delicacy emerged instantly.
During the session, capturing the physical poise of the Puppet proved to be the most demanding aspect. Sandrone is by no means an animated or emotionally expressive character; her allure resides in a still, observant distance. In the first setup, I posed seated beside the piano, casting a glance over my shoulder with a slightly raised chin and half-lidded gaze to manifest her haughty arrogance. To infuse narrative depth, the photographer had me hold a dainty antique teacup and saucer. Propping my chin on one hand while leaning against the sofa for afternoon tea not only felt true to the setting, but also naturally exhibited the intricate folds and designs across the sleeve cuffs and skirt layers.
The third image is my absolute favorite, and the one chosen as the cover. Reclining sideways across the sofa demanded serious core strength, requiring the upper body to appear effortless while elongating the lower body's lines. To match the splayed billow of the gown, I paired it with white Stockings and black high heels finished with red ribbon ties. The white Stockings sculpted the contours of my legs beautifully, creating striking visual tension against the dark hemline and sofa fabric. As I lay sideways, the long crimson ribbons cascaded naturally down, interweaving with the white overskirt to form rich compositional layering.
For the overall illumination, we used warm-toned key lighting to sculpt facial bone structure and accentuate textile textures, while deliberately dropping ambient exposure in the background to concentrate the viewer's focus onto the subject. The placement of the prop sword and birdcage was also meticulously calibrated to keep the framing uncluttered.
When cosplaying such an intricately detailed and emotionally detached character, the greatest risk is appearing stiff or lifeless on camera. Throughout the shoot, I continuously fine-tuned the curve of my neck and shoulders, striving to strike the sweet spot between regal dignity and languid ease. From pre-production to the final edit, this project demanded substantial energy, yet seeing the finished interplay of physical sets and lighting made every ounce of effort entirely worthwhile.
