[Komeiji Koishi cosplay] Touhou Project: That Serene, Snow-White State of Mind

This Komeiji Koishi cosplay project has gone through quite a lot of detail-refining from preparation to shooting. The most eye-catching part of the costume is undoubtedly that massive black wide-brimmed dress hat; the layers of lace on the brim were extremely time-consuming to handle, while the combination of the striking large blue flower and white roses on the crown adds a bright, western-style dress texture amidst the mystery. To align with the character design, mint green was chosen for the wig styling, which was specially trimmed to create layers and light tips, giving the silhouette a naturally fluffy look.

The off-white jacquard top is crafted from fabric with vintage damask patterns, which, paired with the dark green embroidered collar edge and black lace trim, makes the upper body look exquisite and elegant. The tiered ruffles on the cuffs and collar are distinct, and the black lace ribbon on the cuffs deepens the overall vintage atmosphere. The blue sphere prop in hand is another visual focus of the look; the ring of white sawtooth-shaped pattern at the bottom, the surrounding light blue leaves, and the connected transparent blue tube with a waterdrop-like texture all represent every effort to recreate the character's unique, mysterious traits.

The temperature on the day of the shoot was freezing, and the pure white snow reflected light intensely, so managing the exposure control beforehand was crucial. In order to present Koishi's unperceived, drifting-on-the-fringe aura within this snow-white environment, I deliberately adjusted my pose to be more reserved, using a gesture where my index finger gently rests on my chin to convey a thoughtful state of mind. The mint green hair contrasts beautifully with the white background and dark clothing, making the visual presentation look exceptionally clean.

In the process of anime cosplay, the most important thing is to capture the soul of the character. She is a girl with the power of the unconscious, so her expressions shouldn't be overly expressive; maintaining an aura of being aloof from the world yet carrying a touch of softness is most appropriate. To achieve this effect, I kept my gaze slightly downcast to avoid direct eye contact with the camera, while relaxing my body's center of gravity. Although my fingers were quite stiff from the cold during the shoot, seeing the final frame capture that serenity of Gensokyo makes all the hard work worth it.

In post-processing, we kept large areas of negative space on the snow and slightly lowered the color saturation, steering the images toward a cool and healing color tone to echo the character's background setting. The long-sleeved Western-style dress design and the wide brim of the hat give the entire photoshoot a Touhou fantasy vibe blended with a retro-classical touch. As a cosplayer, doing thorough prep work and on-site detail management is absolutely essential. Only when you integrate the costumes, makeup, props, and your own aura can you produce a high-quality shoot. I hope to have more opportunities for outdoor photography in similar styles in the future to continuously explore and experience the inner depth of each character.
