When preparing to shoot Tewi Inaba this time, I was actually thinking about how to present the character's 'cunningness' and 'cuteness' at the same time. Although Tewi Inaba from Touhou Project looks like a soft and cute rabbit-eared girl on the outside, the mischievous, little-devil vibe in her personality is incredibly attractive. Therefore, for this White studio photography session, instead of choosing the conventional route of smiling cutely, I tried more poses with emotional tension.
For example, in the set where I am adjusting the glasses, I deliberately made my gaze somewhat cold and scrutinizing. Paired with the black-rimmed glasses prop, it instantly broke the sugary stereotype, bringing out a gap moe contrast that is intelligent yet slightly mischievous. As for the low-angle shot, it utilizes wide-angle perspective to elongate the skirt hem and arm lines, giving the entire frame a stronger sense of oppression and storytelling, as if looking down at someone from above.
The red-and-white plaid, collar lace, and those little carrot decorations on the costume have so many details. Therefore, we chose soft diffuse reflection for the lighting layout to retain the fabric texture and skin tone translucency as much as possible, preventing overexposed highlights from washing away the layers. The benefit of a white studio is that it concentrates all attention on the character herself without being distracted by complex backgrounds. In this way, whether it's eye contact or hand gestures, the character traits can be conveyed more precisely.
In post-processing, I slightly lowered the saturation to bring the pink skirt closer to a low-saturation peach color, making it look more durable and more in line with the 'everyday yet whimsical' atmosphere in my heart. During the shoot, I actually tried many sets of pose reference, and the final selections are the ones where I feel the movements and expressions were captured perfectly.
Tewi Inaba's setting is actually very suitable for this kind of slightly 'aloof' or 'scrutinizing' camera language. It is completely different from the sweet styles I usually shoot, making it a very interesting breakthrough. I hope this set of photos allows everyone to see a different side of the little rabbit from Touhou Project.
