[Salter & Jalter Cosplay] FGO's Dark Duo Under the Shinjuku Night View

Completed this official Fate/Grand Order cosplay photoshoot of Salter cosplay and Jalter cosplay on the streets and in a garage in Shinjuku. The main reason for choosing this location was the innate neon light & shadow and urban detachment of the Shinjuku night view, which perfectly complements the cool, slightly rebellious modern leather outfits of these two characters.

The outfits for this shoot focused on black leather jackets and shorts paired with mid-calf leather boots. While these items are quite everyday in real life, the contrasting wig hair colors and props like weapons and flags instantly maxed out their "extraordinary" character identities. The underground parking garage provided an airy environment, where cool-toned fluorescent lights cast sharp reflections on the dark leather fabrics, carving out crisp contours. On pedestrian overpasses with urban traffic rushing below and intricate architectural structures, a sense of nighttime operations naturally emerged.

We did a lot of homework beforehand researching local Shinjuku geography, exploring everything from wide main-street stairs to hidden multi-story parking structures in search of ideal shooting spots. During the shoot, photographer @🌸桜華Tokitaka caught light with keen sensitivity, intentionally picking scenes with strong localized light sources like beneath streetlights or near garage vents, utilizing shadows cast by streetlamps to create tense compositions. We tried eye-level, low-angle, and high-angle shots within the same scenes. Shooting partners @CCHISAA and @終於Still quickly jumped into character, adjusting their positions relative to each other to make the staggered spatial depth between the two characters remarkably vivid.

In truth, handling post-processing ambience and page layouts was a massive challenge for someone like me with average artistic talent. The bold red lettering and collage design seen in the first draft were actually my forceful attempt to style the photo collection like a physical art book. Having received no formal design training, I used the most fundamental methods when laying out pages—stacking layers and adjusting letter spacing bit by bit—hoping this raw collage feel would give viewers a reading experience akin to comic book panels. Although the final product may not be as sleek as a professional designer's, it genuinely carries a lot of hard work. I hoped this layout would compensate for emotions the images couldn't fully express alone, giving these night street shots an extra layer of storytelling.

Street location shoots certainly involve more randomness than studio shoots—such as sudden car horns or curious looks from passersby—but these bustling, chaotic elements unique to Shinjuku unexpectedly became vibrant enhancements in the photos. The leather jackets and hairstyles fit the black duo persona we wanted to present perfectly: combining combat intensity with a lazy, urban night-cruising feel after hours. Those nights spent camping out in underground parking garages and every second spent rushing up and down seeking camera angles made this photoshoot experience incredibly grounded.

Although not a viral internet-famous hotspot with guaranteed traffic, Shinjuku's blend of traditional and modern urban feel perfectly aligns with the story tone of Fate/Grand Order's Shinjuku chapter. I hope this unembellished, honest presentation—relying on raw night environments, streetlights, and patient location photography—authentically conveys the charm of these characters within a modern urban night view.
