Shooting this Scarlet Devil Mansion-themed set, from finalizing the plan to the final images, a lot of effort went into the lighting. Just as the description says, we spent half an hour just adjusting the lighting setup for the red studio backdrop. To stay close to the character's vampire temperament, the main light source used a large area of red light, combined with side-backlighting to outline the silhouette, highlighting that elegant yet dangerous feeling of Remilia. The skirt has many layers and black lace trim; under the refraction of light and shadow, the translucent tulle texture can be better presented. In terms of poses, I chose standing while lifting the skirt, holding a red apple, and tightly gripping the red spear, paired with the bat wings on my back, attempting to recreate that touch of tsundere and nobility. The wig featured a blue-and-purple gradient, paired with a black-and-pink bow headpiece, keeping the color tones unified. Regarding the equipment, it was necessary to not only balance the lighting angles but also take care of the costume's shape under large movements. Especially when doing the skirt-lifting and turning movements, the exaggerated ruffles and stacked lace are affected by gravity, requiring continuous posture adjustments to let the skirt hem present the most perfect pleats. For those backlight silhouette shots, we intentionally increased the halo behind to give the red-and-black silhouette a mysterious sense of stage presence. On the other hand, the front sitting pose paired with the red apple prop deliberately softened the sharpness in my gaze, adding to the character's cute side. Although the lighting setup process for this set was tedious, seeing the final effect of light and shadow hitting the skirt and wings made me feel that the half-hour of tuning was completely worth it. Characters from Touhou Project offer a lot of creative freedom for fan-made works, but how to highlight the character's temperament through lighting and atmosphere creation was the main focus of this anime-style photography attempt.
