This Xianxia style look interwoven with light purple and white took a whole afternoon from preparation to shooting. The wig is a customized gradient color, transitioning from light pink at the top to lavender purple at the hair ends, with plenty of volume—just grooming and securing it took nearly an hour. The design of the headpiece is very sophisticated, with feather-like hair buns on both sides and a small golden pendant on the forehead. Coupled with that pair of white horn-shaped feather hair accessories, the overall visual aspect is exceptionally light, but the actual weight is not light at all. It took repeated adjustments with clips and hairspray to make them look as if they grew naturally.
The costume has a strong sense of layering. The upper body is a modified off-the-shoulder style, with a ring of white fluff encircling the neckline, which happens to expose the lines of the shoulders and collarbones, making me look very slender. The arm armor is made of rigid material, featuring carvings and a gradient light purple coating; it looks a bit cool when worn, but I had to be careful not to scratch the clothes when moving my fingers. The lower body features a short skirt and long leg stockings. That layer of white base fabric with dark vine patterns is actually a one-piece piece, and putting it on was extremely strenuous because I had to ensure the direction of the pattern aligned with the leg shape. The high heels have a ring of pearl chains at the ankles, making a slight clinking sound when walking, which instead became an element that added a sense of dynamics during the photoshoot.
Two props were prepared: a golden curved scimitar and a transparent ribbon with a blue fluorescent feel. The scimitar has a moderate weight and feels substantial in hand, making it particularly suitable for actions like holding the blade and glancing back or turning sideways defensively. The ribbon is made of a special material that can be twisted into a spiral shape; as long as there is sufficient light, it can capture that flowing magic light effect. I tried both props during the shoot, and felt that the scimitar showed more heroism, while the ribbon leaned more towards gentle beauty.
In terms of set design, this time we chose a very elegant indoor ancient style studio. Wooden window grids, semi-transparent white tulle drapes, and that branch of pinkish-white flowers next to it—the details were handled beautifully. I sat on that wooden couch covered with a white long-pile plush blanket. The texture of the blanket was very comfortable, allowing me to relax naturally once seated. The photographer utilized that warm yellow antique lantern light on the right as one of the main light sources. Especially when shooting a half-body backward glance, the backlight cast over, gilding the edges of the wig and armor with a layer of gold, and that dreamlike feel instantly came out.
There were actually some minor episodes during the shooting process, such as the fluff on the blanket easily sticking to the stockings, requiring a cleanup every time I changed poses. Also, that curved scimitar, due to its thick metallic texture, reflected light very intensely, and the photographer had to repeatedly adjust the angle to avoid overexposed bright spots in the frame. But it is precisely the polishing of these details that made the final finished photos look clean and textured. I particularly like the composition of the sitting pose in Figure 2, with legs slightly crossed, the skirt hem and feathers draping naturally, and hands casually twisting the ribbon. The center of gravity of the whole person is very stable, and my gaze happens to lock onto the camera, capturing that lazy yet cool feeling which is exactly the effect I wanted.
Although this look is complex, from headpiece to footwear, every part has been meticulously designed. Putting it on makes one involuntarily enter the state of this character. When removing the makeup after the shoot, looking at those scattered feathers and the wig, I suddenly felt that every cosplay session is a brief time travel. Being able to leave these beautiful moments in front of the lens is inherently worthwhile. I hope to shoot more works of different styles in the future and share more interesting stylings.
