[Laevatain cosplay] Blazing Red Shadow in Arknights: Endfield

Having wrapped up this shoot for Laevatain's look, the real highlight has to be the texture. First was styling the layers of the red wig: the bangs were trimmed slightly longer than the original design to help cover the frame edges of the glasses without obstructing the expression in the eyes. The horns were 3D-printed in resin and then weathered to create surface cracks, where glowing effects and ember particles were added in post-production.

On the costume front, the white section of the collar is firm and upright, contouring snugly along the neck. With multiple straps across the chest, adjustments took quite a bit of time on set. While the black leather gloves look sleek, they restrict finger mobility, requiring conscious control over wrist angles to keep hand lines looking natural while posing. The white trim at the cuffs and the magenta lapels are eye-catching touches, which easily add visual depth whenever an arm is raised in frame.

The floating cup prop was mounted on a clear acrylic stand. During shooting, we carefully balanced the liquid inside and the ice cream scoop on top to avoid revealing the apparatus, digitally erasing the support stand in post. The first photo utilized a wide aperture to focus sharply on the facial expression and hand gestures, showcasing the fine details from the chest up; the glowing rim of the horns echoed the flame particles dancing along the cup's edge, paired with a deliberately lowered gaze to channel an aloof, haughty aura.

The second photo used a wide-angle high-angle shot, focusing on elongating the proportions of the legs and skirt hem. However, strong perspective demands an expansive, poised posture to carry the skirt's volume, drawing from the character's aggressive yet elegant stance. The jagged red weapon prop in my left hand was exceptionally heavy; holding it aloft throughout the prolonged shoot was demanding, while flying embers were scattered around the body in post-production.

For color grading, the main focus was keeping black shadows crisp without crushing them, while giving highlights an orange-tinted warmth. Because the venue featured checkered floor tiles, the background depth was fantastic, lending an immersive exhibition-hall ambiance to the foreground shots. We experimented with different particle styles for the Flame special effects, enhancing the dynamic energy of still photography. Combining the outfit, props, and post-production effects to truly capture Laevatain's blazing intensity was the ultimate goal of this shoot, and the whole journey was thoroughly enjoyable.
